78 SC main wire harness; rebuilding after engine fire

Starting to rebuild after engine fire and I have about 1 ft good wires coming out of the body tunnel.

There are 24 wires (+ a green one separately), and I am hoping if someone would have an easy solution to identify the wires and where they need to go.

Would save me a ton of time....

This person, would purchase a good used harness for the rear of the car with a new fuse panel attached cut off one foot below where your harness reaches and start splicing.
Or, instead of splicing you could install connectors to join the old with the new.

julahti,

Please take some pictures and post where you want to do the 'connections'. I have a chart for the 14-pin connector that indicates where all these wires come from (chassis side) and go to (engine side).

You have to do the re-wiring in two (2) separate stages. Chassis side to 14-pin connector and 14-pin connector to engine wire harness. I was cleaning my basement 2 hours ago and look what I found;

There are one (1) for '78-'79, two (2) for '80, and three (3) for '81-'83 engine wire harnesses from my 'junk' collection and would like to keep one each and dispose the rest. Timmy 2 (Dennis) is a good source for new wire harness if you decide to go that way. But if you plan to do it yourself, I could provide you with the details. Keep us posted.

Tony

Tony, from the sounds of it, julahti has a stub coming out of the tunnel and needs to replace all the wiring in the engine compartment not only for the engine harness but also all the lighting and other devices in the area. That is why I suggested a used harness. If for nothing else than a pattern and guide to rebuild from.
You are correct, pictures would really help.

BTW, I don't just build and sell new engine harnesses, I have instructed many how to repair their own, direct them to the parts they need, as well as make their own modifications for custom work.

Tony is also very helpful to all and a great benefit to this community.

White plastic connector........

Dennis,

I've been looking for this white electrical connector (see picture below) for the engine wire harness for my engine test stand and had no luck locating one. While I have your attention (sorry julahti for hijacking your post) could I buy one from you?

Look at the while plastic connector near the fuse panel.

Thanks, Tony

Do you need both halves Tony? I have the one for the engine harness. I'd have to source the fuse panel piece.
If it is just the engine harness piece I can mail you one with connectors cheap!
Send me a PM and we can go from there.
This one?

Yes, got the "stub" sticking out of the tunnel, as timmy2 suggests.

I actually have a new engine with all engine side harness (female 14-pin) and the whole fuse panel, so what I am missing is the male side of 14 pin wires and lighting etc.

Buying one seems to be not on option; I am in Finland and so shipping takes a while and need to get started right away. I have once already build the engine side harness, so got the experience building one.

Takes a while to figure it out from the wiring diagram, so if anyone has an easy pattern ready, would be a great help.

I don't have a pattern or build plan for what you need.
Like you, I would build it from the schematic or copy a built one if I had one.
It sounds like Tony may be able to supply a list for the 14 wires in the engine wiring part, so that would leave the lighting circuits and a couple of others to figure out.
Tracing out each wire and then running them, sounds like your only option due to time and location constraints.
