Exclamation looked at a 72 today - check this out

These pictures are of the front trunk area (top side and bottom side) just in front of the gas tank, to the right of the left side front a-arm attachment point. Is this the typical way a suspension pan breaks? It seems to me that one panel has separated from another due to rust damage and this would severely affect the suspension structural integrity.

Sorry the pics are zoomed in a bit too much to see where everything is but I wanted to show the damage in detail.

It's a shame because the car was drop dead gorgeous otherwise... Reminding me why tangerine is my favorite early 911 color.

Run Forest Run! If the rust is that bad in those few spots, pull all of the carpet out of the car front, back and trunk. Look at the battery boxes, every suspension points, etc. The rockers should be probed carefully for more rust and look at all of the weld points. Make sure you can go at the undercoating where it is cracked.

Please don't dismiss the car because of rust in the front pan if it is just in theat area. Usually, there is a cause for the rust however, that might stem from the batteries leaking or just exposure to salt. Depending on the price for the car, it is a "T" (I am assuming based on the rear hatch) and it might not be worth buying. I tend to agree with Paul... doesn't look really good.

All The Best,

Marc

Ryan -

I guess so. I'm still working on my own, but just like everyone else, if something more original, better taken care of, and lower miles were to catch my eye, it would be hard to say no.

I have a thing for tangerine cars, so I had to see this one. I think what I really want is a coupe, but I do like the look of the early Targas, polished targa bar and all.

Side note, I think this car was particularly special because it's almost exactly what my own car would have been from the factory!

Jeff, you do have a lot of work and $$$ to take it back to original condition. I would really like to see the end result if you get there but understand that it would be frustrating and get old on the way.
Are you going to drive up and join us for the beach BBQ on Sun? Maybe a quick drive before? Do you know of any good canyons between you and Orange?

My only experience with the drive from here to Orange is the horrible traffic every weekend trying to get out of San Diego on a Friday and back on a Sunday night. What a way to spend a weekend!

Maybe I'll have to join you on Sunday. Is there a formal itinerary yet?

Last time's drive was a lot of fun. I enjoyed pushing my little 2.4T to the limit to keep up with the big boys.

It's a pretty informal itinerary. Here's the tread if you haven't seen it. I was just thinking maybe some guys would like to go for a drive before or on the way, no responses yet.
