Hello, I have an 83 911 SC and today it violently popped out of first gear and will not go into 1st or reverse. All other gears are fine. The car has been driven properly and has 85k miles on it. Any clues?
Thanks Anthony. __________________ This post was auto-generated based upon a question asked on our tech article page here: |

This sounds like a bad trans. Drain the fluid and check for any metal debris. There is likely an internal issue causing it to pop out of gear.

If the shifter is sloppy could be the coupler or bushings causing it to pop out. With a loose linkage you may not have engaged 1st fully causing it to pop out. Like nick said drain the tranny to check for metal in the oil and you may want to remove the small inspection cover on the bottom/side of the trans to check that the support is in place and bolts are tight.

Check the shifter linkage and rear coupler first. Then if everything is tight drain the oil.
Easy first.... |
