"problem with thicker materials is the possibility if crazing "
You should be thermoforming the Lexan in to shape. (cold-forming thick clear PC can be problematic) Lexan (poycarbonate) has great dimensional stability once formed. The trick is in heating a clear sheet of the stuff with out toasting the surface. (read: slow-going)

Not sure if you noticed, but the last post was from 2003. Haven't heard from this thread in quite a while. I wonder how many of the TT projects got off the ground. If you go back on this thread or do a search, there were two or three people that were trying to mass produce something.
It may have actually gotten to the Pelican Parts store so have a look there, too. FDuvall Quote:

Probably because Pelican started selling a hard top that bolts on the Targa frame that I have heard is nice. The one in the Pelican store is by JMPRO, Jerry.
Not sure if Bell is still working on this one... Joe A

Saratoga Technologies was the company making them for the 911, 914, and 944. They are "in process " on a new website- don't know how long that's been or when they will be ready again. I seriously doubt they would have the tops available. But if you check e bay and the recycler often maybe a used one will pop up that could be used as a master

Here is the link:
http://www.pelicanparts.com/catalog/shopcart/911M/POR_911M_BDYtar_pg1.htm#item0 Targa Top Fiberglass Shell This fiberglass hard top attaches to your existing Targa frame and utilizes the stock latches and seals. The black gel-coat finish is ready for paint or covering with an OEM type vinyl. The inside is ready for a glue-in headliner – no sewing required. The top is fabricated with hand-laid fiberglass in a mold fabricated from an original factory hard top. The installation is easy and takes advantage of existing screw holes in the frame and is rigidly attached when properly installed. Why spend money on a new soft top that needs to be replaced again and again? No more sags and wrinkles – the perfect curve of the hard top will always reflect the original contour the Porsche designers intended. Download installation instructions here (requires Adobe Acrobat Reader). Targa Hard Top Shell (Fiberglass) - replaces soft Top, requires original frame. Fits 911 1974-89. "rigidly attached". Will these increase torsional rigidity and reduce chassis flex? I'm looking forward to being able to afford one of these for my '81 SC.

"Ridigly ayttached" refers to the f/g top attached to the top frame , not to the car.
