Need help diagnosing non-starting condition

I'm trying to diagnose a no-start condition on my 88 911 and would appreciate some advice.

I'm pretty sure it's a fuel delivery issue.

I tested the fuel pump by disconnecting the DME relay and jumpering the harness. When I do so, I hear a momentary thunk which I'm assuming is the fuel pump. If I disconnect the jumper and re-connect, I get the thunk every time.

I should hear a continual whirr, shouldn't I?

Does this sound like a bad fuel pump to you?
