My cold start valve is bolted to the air box, just downstream of the throttle body. Just before the single big black air box branches out into six aluminum intake runners. The cold start valve is on the back, so I'd have to reach around the left side of the air bix in order to touch it. It has a flexible fuel line connected to it, as well as one of those 1/2" rectangular "Bosch" electrical plugs that are so hard to disconnect.
![]() It looks like a Motronic injector.

it's attached to the front center of the lower, main intake manifold. (front being to the front of the car). pretty much directly under the fuel distributor. pull the air filter and then it can be seen with a mirror and flashlight. there's a blue plug going to it. the thermal switch that allows it to work is on the face of the left chain housing cover. the switch is hard to get at, and you can barely see it, and often one of the 2 wires has come off, which renders the cold start valve inoperable.

Thank you!
Iīm just gonna pull the electrical plug away from it, my guess is that this valve is pumping fuel to the engine regulary. /J

If the cold start valve has a "mechanical" leak and is weeping fuel, pulling off the connector or wires will do nothing to stop the leak. Jim

i can't remember the last one i actually saw leaking. that used to be the standard approach for the early vw FI cars, before anybody understood them. unplug the 5th injector! all it did was make them hard to start. so what's the real problem you're trying to solve?
