Loctite on PMO fuel rails

Want to put in a balance line. What's the best way to remove the existing plugs? I think they are in with loctite (not sure which product). Do I need something on the AN fitting threads?

Todd

nothing on An fitting threads as they do not seal or are not the sealing portion of the fitting. The plugs can be quite tight as there NPT (pipe threads) I believe, good even pull works the best.

PMO fuel bars on the carbs are M12 x 1.25 on the ends. For the crossover/balance line I used an Earl's 90 degree swivel fitting that adapts from male M12x1.25 to male AN-6 and sealed it with a stat-o-seal (aluminum seal ring with rubber center) instead of the o-ring it comes with. The Earl's swivel fitting is part no. 949091ERL towards the bottom of this page

AN Metric Adapters | ANplumbing.com

Also on that page is the AN6 male to M12x1.25 male straight fitting part no. 991945 I use the straight fitting on the inlet side of the fuel bar. I hate barbed fittings when it comes to hose removal....

Actually that red fitting on my carb is an XRP brand. But it's the same size as Earl's. Don't be fooled by the description on anplumbing or the Earl's catalog that says Weber is M12x1.5 and Solex, Dellorto is M12x1.25. I am 100% certain the thread pitch is 1.25 on the ends of the PMO fuel bars because I spent way too much time figuring this out a few years ago!!!

If you don't want your fitting to swivel you can use a fixed 90 degree direct port fitting that is part number 849091

I like the swivel because it accounts for a little bit of misalignment and takes the stress off the fittings. Also allows you to route the hose down a bit to clamp it, instead of running it straight across and letting it hang free in the breeze

The stat-o-seal part number is 178008 AN Washers | O-Rings Extras | ANplumbing.com I bought a pack of ten from McMaster part no 93786A200

Can get all the Earls fittings real easy from Summit Racing if anplumbing doesn't have them in stock.

Hope that helps clear up a few things and gives you some options?

Will an an6 male male adapter work on either end?

Like that washer you are using.

Been trying to plan out my own system using ptfe but there arent as many fitting options.

Sure, you could use the AN6 straight adapter on either end. Then just use a regular 90 degree hose end to make the turn.

Actually the straight adapter lets you use a simpler seal. You can see in my picture with the straight adapter I use one of the standard fiber washers underneath it. The only reason I chose to use the stat-o-seal for the swivel fitting is because the swivel fitting typically uses an o-ring to seal the metric end. Since the fuel bar is not set up to accept an o-ring, I decided I needed to use either a regular aluminum sealing washer or the stat-o-seal.

Seems the teflon hose has typically been used for hydraulic applications like brakes, clutch, steering. But with the new fuel formulations, teflon fuel hose is becoming more common now. Probably going to take awhile for the market to catch up in terms of fittings, since AN3 and AN4 are your typical teflon fitting sizes.

Thanks for the pics. I was picturing the fitting coming off where the plug on the "side" is, not the front where they are pictured above. I guess I need to get 90 degree fittings now. I've got the male fittings from Richard, but I bought straight AN-6 fittings.

Haven't looked at the fittings from Richard to see if they come with some kind of crush washer or not. I imagine they do.

Well if you come off the side, then the fitting has to be an AN adapter on one end and banjo/hollow thru bolt on the carb side. I recently saw somebody's setup with the balance line coming out of the side location. Can't remember whose it was though. Sorry...
