I have a 85 911 3.2 with intermitten starting problems. Now it will not start at all. When I turn the key to run possition should i be able to hear the fuel pump run until pressurized

I would perform a fuel delivery system test. Check fuel pressure, volume and quality.

The default answer for all the 3.2 Carreras is check the DME relay first.
If the starter is engaging and the engine it turning over but not starting the number one thing to check is the DME relay under the driver's seat.

No....fuel pump will not run with the key in the on position.....only when turned all the way and the motor is cranking.
