rear view mirror

I just had a windshield installed; however I can't get the rear view mirror on the mount. My car is a '78 911SC and the windshield has the little round metal mount. The car had a glue on mirror previously. I've put quite a bit of force trying to get the mirror on, but I'm afraid of breaking the new windshield.
thanks for any help.

Sounds like a newer version mount??? Do you need a new mirror?

I have a mirror that is made for the round mount. It goes on about an eighth of an inch and will not move any more.

I got the mirror on. I used a screwdrived handle to tap the mirror on the mount. I was kind of afraid to do it but once it started I was able to tap it on all the way. The old windshield is trash now the wife bumped it with the lawn mower and cracked it. It will be nice to have a windshield that does not leak.

My rear view mirror mount and mirror popped off a few months ago while I was cleaning the glass. I thought about putting it back on, but I guess I like it off. So, it is in the trunk. If I get interrogated, it will be my testimony that it came off recently.

My problem is quite different. PO glued the rearview mirror mount on sideways, no matter how I move it around, I can't get the darn thing to look straight back. My wife says nail polish remover will get it off...anyone else have any ideas. Concern is it won't soak in around the base.
