I think that the aftermarket turbos mentioned above sound very interesting, I guess that you keep your stock C.R. and run a mild boost(?) Then you still have good power off-boost, and blast-off power w/ boost?
As someone else mentioned, with more power you need to upgrade suspension and brakes, ($$), so it also makes a lot of sense to start w/ a 930, (factory 911 turbo), which is already set up for big H.P., these cars are also very easy to coax another 100hp out of, all it takes is $$. Good luck!

Uh, I have a more cynical suggestion: profit margin. CIS was cheap, and Porsche was desperate to squeeze the very last dollar out of each and every turbo.
That explains why, in 1994, Porsche was selling its "Pride and Joy", its flagship car, the 3.6 Turbo and Turbo S, for prices approaching $100,000, with a fuel management system that had been state of the art 20 years prior, but by that time had been eclipsed by almost every halfway serious car manufacturer (including, belatedly, Porsche itself in its NA cars). Yes, CIS can flow a lot of gas, but it's imprecise, and wasteful, when compared to a well-tuned electronic fuel injection system. And those systems can be made to flow enough gas to drown a horse, if desired. Don't get me wrong, the CIS cars are great cars for all of that. But Porsche was WAY behind the curve on that one. And its very sophisticated DME on the 95-96 993 tt shows just how far behind it had been... |

There is a kit, made by one of our members, to turbocharge a stock SC.
So the answer to your question is YES - as long as you also bolt on the rest of the kit. It goes for ~$3000.
