where does this wire go?

Quick question... after valve adjustment, oil change, plugs change, and about to change points, decided to just try starting the car... did not fire up.. just cranked... i noticed a loose wire and I have no idea where it goes. here is a pic... is it a ground? will the car run without it hooked up? looks like its a black wire. car is a carbureted 2.2 911t thanks!

Is there a spade lug on the side of the distributor that is missing a wire? This may it.

It should connect to the distributor, it goes to the same connection as the black/purple wire.
