Round dial/knob? Heat exchanger questions??

I'm sure this is a silly question to most of you guys......I'm still a Porsche newbie.......so please forgive me. I'm curious about the round dial between the driver's seat and passenger seat. I'm assuming it's the control settings for the heat exchangers???

I ALWAYS leave it at the"0" setting.

Can someone please provide me with the basics of this round/dial control knob?? I'm assuming there's a "1", "2" and "3" setting for winter and summer driving conditions?? Please correct me if I'm wrong.

I have a 1976 Porsche 930 that has had several modifications from previous owners (B&B exhaust, K27 turbo). Are there any pointers that I should be aware of when experimenting with this knob?? I notice that on a nice 75 (F) degree day and the car is warmed up from some "high spirited" driving........when I sit idle at a light.....that heat starts to generate and I tend to get real hot.....to the point where I start sweating/perspiring (then again, it could be a personal problem.....lol)

My other gauges' readings are fairly normal from what I've gathered and compared from previous posts/threads on this message board regarding gauge readings.

I already performed a search on "heat exchangers" but didn't get any real clarifications.

Thanks in advance!

That is the heat control. You definitely don't need that now.
The higher the number the more heat. You use it in combination with the fan controls on the dash. It has been my experience that
even when it is pretty cold out you will turn it down pretty quickly once the engine gets close to opererating temp.
Hope this helps.

Mine goes from 0 to 9. If yours is only 1-3, it may be transplanted from a later Carrera, and is for footwell blowers, something you car didn't come with (doesn't mean they aren't there now, installed by a P.O.).

Do a search for "automatic heat", you may find more info.
