Need quick response. My carpet is mildewing.

Never in my wildest dreams would I have imagined my targa could leak so much. I loaned my daily driver to my parents, because both of their vehicles were in the shop. I got caught at work where my car had to sit for hours in a torrential rain storm. My interior got drenched. Of course I'm using this as an opprotunity to refurbish my interior.

I've read the tech article on interior and done a couple of searches. How in the world do you take that seat bracket bolt out? Does anyone know off the top of their head what size it is? Do they make a special wrench for this? Even with a thin socket, I don't know if I can get it and the ratchet in there to remove it.

I think you are talking about the bolt that holds the seat sliding rails onto the metal brackets that are fixed to the car?

If so, I don't know the size off hand, but they are a pain. I ended up stripping several of mine trying to remove them. I ended (with suggestions from people here) getting a small cutting blade and cutting a small slit in the head of the bolt and twisting it out with a big screwdriver. Once they were out, I replaced them with allen head cap screws- prevents similar problems in the future.

Use a six point socket, also spray the base of the bolts with a penatrating oil.
After you have done this get a brass drift and a hammer and whack the head of the bolt head on. This should help the penatrating oil get into the bolt threads, also it will loosen up any rust etc.

a friend of mine makes a black fabric water resistant cover that only covers the "greenhouse". attaches with velcro ties around door handles, mirrors and wipers and locks under the engine lid for theft deterrence. keeps water out, as well as prying eyes. e/mail me for details if anyone's interested.

What year is your Targa?

75- should have 9 or 9.5mm allen bolts. I had to "shorten" the short end of the wrench and slide a tube to get enough leverage to get mine out and avoid hitting the seat.

There are 4 bolts per seat, make sure you slide it completely forward or back to get the best access to the bolts.

It is a 10mm. Thanks guys. I still couldn't get a ratchet in there. Not even a small 1/4 inch drive. I was however able to get an offset 10mm boxend wrench in there nicely. The earlier post suggesting allen head bolts is a great idea. I think I may go this route. I'm sure I'll be back with another question later. Thanks again.
