1977 911S Garage Find: My Journey Begins
1977 911S Garage Find: My Journey Begins:
1st Off I wanted to say thanks again to ALL of the fellow Pelicans here so far that have helped me and/or offered their expertise and advice! It's Greatly Appreciated!!! Both Pelican and the Porsche Community Here are AWESOME!!!! I have posted a few posts about this car, as well as sold some Misc. Parts. But like NeedSpace have decided to compile a thread on my Journey with the car. I will admit I am a Porsche Newb, and this is my first Porsche Project although I have always loved Porsche's. I almost bought one a few times in the past... So here is how my adventure begins. I really wasn't looking for a car or a Porsche for that fact to get or work on. I stumbled upon my car which is a true Garage Find, a complete numbers matching Black on Black 1977 Porsche 911S Sunroof Coupe that had sat in a garage since at least 1995! I was helping my Wife and some Friends with an Estate Sale when I found this car sitting in the garage on the property. I ended up getting this car as a rescue to that estate sale, all other interested parties in the car wanted to buy and dismantle it and sell it for parts... :-( I really did not want to see that happen, I guess you could say it was love at first sight! So I decided to rescue, rebuild/restore her and get her back on the road. It had sat for 18+ years in the garage and unfortunately with a full tank of gas... But it was a complete car all numbers matching! I was fortunate enough to get a clean title and clear history with no accidents. Unfortunately that is about all I got as far as documentation on the car. At some point in time the original owner put Rear SC/Carrera Flares on it and a Carrera/Turbo Whale Tail (***After trying to figure out if it was Real or Aftermarket, which is on a different thread. I ended up selling the tail, as well as a few other Misc. parts over the past few months.) The original owner filled up the tank right before storing her and unfortunately there she sat since at least 1995. So needless to say the fuel tank was shot... :-( So now I am on my way to getting her back up and running. Here are some pics before I towed her home: ![]() ![]() ![]() Here are a few interior shots: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() So one of the 1st things I did after getting the car home was to see what exactly I was getting myself into. My 1st Post here on Pelican was this. (I Almost Made A Huge Mistake and Shipped My Whole Car to MM (Motor Meister) Thank God I did not do that, and thank Goodness for Pelican and this Forum, as well as the Fellow Pelicans here who warned me!: Please Help! Need Good Porsche Mechanic Another early post I made was beginning to decipher the Motor I had here: 1977 Porsche 911S 2.7L Mystery Motor Question I can't say enough how much I love this car! Since I got it I have been totally obsessed with it. I found NeedSpace's 1976 911S – from garage find to on the road incredible thread which has inspired me immensely, our cars could almost be twins! I am going to begin outlining what I have done with the car so far. As well as post some limited pics I took up until the progress I am making now. |

Great looking car. Is it factory Black or a respray?

Jealous of your wheels.
Nice find, I hope you have a blast going through the car. I'm enjoying mine as I tinker with it little by little. |

Looks like a great project! Get a color copy of the two page wiring diagram-it is easy to follow and it will come in handy.

Hi Guys first off I just wanted to say Thank You for all of the well wishes! I am going to be following up here soon with some updates on my project with some Pics and Video as well.
I wish those were real 9"s on the back! They were actually 16x8 Replicas. It is Factory Black but at some time in the past metal SC/Carrera Flares were added to the rear and it was resprayed and/or at least the Rear was. Quote:
No foolin! I certainly do and I thank all of you here and Pelican everyday. I am sorry that so many had the misfortune of having to deal with those guys, but I am thankful for all who have posted here because it most certainly saved me from making a BIG mistake... |

I love that your window trim was NOT painted black. I have had to clean mine up and unfortunately, a PO sanded them down a little so they are pretty scuffed up. If you need any pictures of something send me a PM. Cannot wait to see your progress.

Needspace, does this diagram cover an 82 SC? I'm now carb'd so a lot of the wiring may be redundant.

Your story is very similar to mine,
I picked up a 1977 911s Targa indirectly through an estate sale. I ended up ditching the 2.7l and replaced it with a 3.0l. With the excellent help of the people here on the site it finally ran in October. Here is a shot of mine now tucked away for the winter. ![]() Good Luck |

Are you sure those are sc flares added on or is it an original ( and somewhat rare) 77 carerra?

No the Flares were added. I am positive it is a 1977 911S. I think they were going for the SC look at some point in it's life. This car is a Factory Black on Black car that came originally with the 2.7L.

Ok So I am going to create some what of a photo walk through/archive of my project to date:
Starting with the 1st photos of my car before bringing it home: ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I know I have my work cut out for me. My Initial Checklist was as follows: 1.) Assess the whole car mechanically, and tackle everything that is needed to get her up and running again, and back on the road, as a daily driver. Drivetrain: Engine/Transmission, Fuel System, Braking System, Electrical. 2.) Assess and tackle the Exterior Body Damage. The whole car is pretty solid with only minor surface rust mainly on the Rear Added SC/Carrera Fenders. There is some minor body damage with a dent in the Driver Side Fender, and Driver Side Door. Also as you can see in the pics the Right Rear View Mirror was ripped off of the Passenger Door? The Car is in need of a full paint job to freshen it back up. I am planning on a Full Window Out Paint Job eventually. (***Note to self: I really want to take care of the minor body issues like the surface rust ASAP.) 3.) Dial in the interior and get it back together with new carpet, and redo and/or replace the steering wheel. My main goal with this car is to get her road worthy again, and drive the heck out of her!!!! I would like if possible to make her a daily driver again or close to it as possible. I feel this car was meant to be driven and that is exactly what I want to do. |

Here are some more pics (***According to the VIN Plate the car's build date was 05/77):
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() She was pretty filthy as you can imagine from sitting in this same spot for over 18 years or so. She was covered in Dust, Spider Webs, and Had Little Critters Cruising Around the Engine Compartment. It almost looked like she had sat in a field, when I first looked underneath her. She is an original CA car with Smog, and A/C. |
