Nice job! Is that a 3.0L? I dropped an '87 3.2 into my '77 Targa 4 years ago; what a difference with the increased liters, stainless steel headers, a chip, K&N air induction, and a few other goodies. Where did you get the stainless steel plates and pedals? The only thing I would really like to change inside is to add a steel plate over the area to the left of my clutch pedal, where the brake system (I believe) intrudes into the cockpit. The existing carpet snags on most rubber soled shoes in my size 13 feet. Topsiders work OK, but the grip on my running shoes has caused a few blown shifts.

It's a 3.6, but I'm glad my disguise is working!
Got the front oil cooler installed. I was going to notch the area behind it for better air flow, but I've never had an issue with my other car, so if it gets hot I'll do it later. I also finished up a few open issues on the rear suspension and bumper. I also determined that my Dansk 2in/2out banana muffler won't fit, so I order some parts from Summit to fab up a new set up. Here's a few pics: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psnzmewlwb.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pszapafr3r.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psoubssobn.jpg |
NICE what did you do to mod the engine shroud .http://interinsurances.com/huht.jpg http://newfinancehelp.com/hu3l.jpg

I can't believe the f'ed up wiring in this car! So far I've pulled cut up extension cords, 4 conductor telephone cable, and speaker wire used to wire critical components.
However, I added oil to the engine, tightened up the last few connectors, and bolted the seat back in. I also tested the new wiring and all seems ready for first start! My muffler, mandrel bends, and flanges should be here Wednesday. All that's left is to weld up a new exhaust and drive off into the sunset... ...well, there is a couple hours of tuning, shake down, fixing what ever little issues pop up. Of course, all this depends on the used 3.6 that I bought not having any internal issues... Engine looks cool! http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psbuzn77qx.jpg http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...psjdx5d2xn.jpg |

My magnaflow muffler and a bunch of mandrel bends from Summit showed up yesterday, so I spent today measuring, cutting, and welding up my exhaust system. Tomorrow is first start!

At least 3 different types of electrician licenses in Canada, Construction, Industrial and Power. I have a Power Electrician License from Manitoba. Work on 500,000 volt stuff, can't fit 4"- 8" aluminum bus in our cars... ;) Can't wait to read about your first start, that exhaust looks great :) |

First start is always traumatic, particularly when it is an engine I bought used on this forum. I'll just hope for the best! |
Victory is mine! This thing sounds badass and it is the perfect sound level. A nice rumble, but no drone or resonance. Just perfect!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v6...pszoi34drr.jpg The front oil cooler is leaking, but I almost don't care. Everything else is perfect and I'll fix it later this week. Oh yeah, tap the picture for the video. |
Great, I remember the felling when she fire up on the second try.
Congratulation :) Now its time for a cold one, help yourself; http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1395612484.jpg |
Congrats...enjoy in good health!

Thanks, JJ, I'm having two or three with the wifey as we speak!
It took four tries. Wasn't getting enough fuel, so I opened the mixture another half turn. Then advanced the timing a bit. She coughed and roared to life. An hour of carb balancing and turning and she sounds purdy! |
Great job. Go ahead and sleep late tommorrow. Lol

Good news, always a relief when it works like it is supposed to. :)

So true!
Here's a pic after coming back from my first drive: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1395625467.jpg |
Nice job!
What muffler parts did you get from Summit? |

These light cars just come alive with a 3.6 in the back. Great job on the install. |
James, I used a stainless magnaflow muffler, four 180 degree mandrel bends, and four stainless band clamps. With the brand new OBX stainless headers at $380, that's about $600 in exhaust parts and a days labor with the chop saw and welder. Not bad and it sounds awesome!
Yesterday, I put a couple hundred miles on it of fairly spirited driving on the Hill Country Rallye. This thing is awesome with a ton of power. Unfortunately, my front end is still stock and worn out. The front couldn't keep up with the newly refurbished back end and coil overs. I'm calling Clint on Monday. Here's a video of the car idling and with a couple revs. http://youtu.be/QtKN47oljAk How do you paste YouTube videos so you can see the first frame? I need a better hood prop! |
Thanks for the information. I am the point where I will be building one. Do you know the part number for the Magnaflow? Any drone?
That is VERY nice sounding system. |
I guess it's about time I updated this thread.
Last fall I let a friend drive my 911. Actually, he had a brand new 2015 911S and we traded for some spirited driving in the hill country. When I got my car back, it seemed a little down on power. I checked all the normal things, but over the next couple of weeks it developed a knock. Turns out it has a spun rod bearing on #3. My friend later admitted he missed a shift. Grrr! Anyway, just before Christmas I found this low mileage 95 3.6. The PO wrecked his car and it sat in his garage for several years. It hadn't been driven much and had oil leaks from the triangle, valve covers and cam covers, so I got a pretty good deal. I figured I'd reseal this one and then transfer all the bolt ons over from the knocking engine, then rebuild it. I was pleased to find no broken head studs and the cams and chains looked new. I sold the induction (still have the distributor, valve covers, headers, and a bunch of other parts for sale soon). Yesterday, I cleaned it thoroughly and gave it a reseal. Today, I started bolting on parts and getting it ready for the swap. I also made some changes to my car. 17" wheels I had powder coated black and new graphics. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424031119.jpg Here is the current engine ready to come out: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424031250.jpg And the new one ready for cleaning and a reseal: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424031318.jpg Progress made which should allow me to swap them out next weekend: http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424031421.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424031470.jpg http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1424031515.jpg |
Got the damaged 964 3.6 out and stripped all the electrical today and installed it on the 993 3.6. It is interesting all the little differences between the two engines that are three years apart. I have to travel Wednesday through Saturday, so I'm going to try and get the tranny and clutch moved Monday. And then the carbs next Sunday. If all goes well, I might even get the engine back in Sunday! I like the red shroud better than the blue one and it goes with the rest of the paint scheme. I'm trying to get this done in time for the Hill Country meet.

I am very curious as to the "electricals"? I almost did what you are doing but with 993 parts going on to a 964 engine. I did however use the 993 plastic intake, 993 injectors, and 993 headers. The rest will be 964 except for the mild cams. I have not had it running yet, hopefully when the weather is warmer.

Good luck with the swap of the swap :)

Tomorrow this bad boy goes in:

I'll find out later if the piston or head was damaged. |
Looks great!!
Todd |
Looking good...
The melted/flatten plastic spacer reference is for the 964, right? |
That is correct, the 91 964.
