Engine Locknuts:Nylon or Spring Washers on 1973 Engine!?
I am in the process of restoring a 1973 1/2 911 and putting my ENGINE parts and hardware together.
Q: Did nylon lock nuts exist in 1973 and if so, were they used on this year 911 or Was it a standard nut with spring washers as it seems the parts diagrams depict? Thanks All! ![]() |

Ny-locks will work a LOT better than a standard nut with spring washers unless they are in a very hot area.
Or are you nuts about concours? |

I remember that the gearbox nuts on my 1972 915 where like nylocs but are all metal with a sort of crimping section where the nylon is. I replaced them with nylocs, but kept regular nuts and lock washers on the engine fasteners. Maybe use both?

Nylocks were not used on your year, but are much better than lock washers and the old style deformed steel lock nuts (except in high heat applications). I would use nylocks for the intake manifold and other areas where a loose nut could create a vacuum or fuel leak.
