That post was for someone who just wanted to delete their sunroof right? Maybe the answer changes when you need new A pillars too. I don't know but I think it would be a good idea to check just to be sure.

the problem with using a donor roof panel for the 911 bodied cars is the way the skin folds over the rain gutter .
removing the donor cleanly is a total PITA !with out screwing up the donor roof skin .
if you had a new roof skin then it would be the best and easy way to go .
cutting the old and new at the center of the pillars is another ez why to do it but you have to make jigs (ez to do ) to place the new roof with pillars back together so every thing will fit and line up .
if it were me in my shop we would just step cut the pillars and splice in the hole new/used roof with pillars .
you can not just cut straight thru the pillars and weld them back together you would want to step cut them . one reason is to gain access to the inner parts of the pillars to weld them .
the other reason you step cut is to put the strenght back into the pillars .

if your thinking of grafting in new sections from the new/used roof to the old one your welding best be real good as to not warp the crap out of the roof skin when your welding it together .
then you having to do plastic body work on the roof were you spliced in your patches .
your looking at so much more labor of a lesser quality job . kind of pointless to me !

as for swapping in another type of motor for the 911 . IMO doing that to a 911 is not just dumb but **** DUMB !
swapping say a LS motor into the 944 chassis is a great way to go as the 944's motors are total crap .
heavy , low power , high cost to repair and just all and all a crap motor . so the swap for the 944's is a smart way to go but not so for the 911's .
the motors put out good useable power being a flat boxster type motor the weight is low to the center of gravity and with all the performance parts out there for them they can be built to make the 911 go like stink .
I have driven a track only 911 the a LS1 V8 swap in it . it was not a fun car to drive at all !
tail happy is a under statement ! do what you want but for the 911 chassis I would never even think of doing a swap like that to one .

Last week was busy as was the weekend with kids' activities but the weather was great yesterday so I was able to sneak in an hour or so. Stripped the old paint and bondo off of the cowl. About a quarter inch thick in spots! Looks like a possible previous patch panel was done but they did a sloppy job. Looks like it will be okay though.
