Window trim install

There's so much knowledge on this site I never thought I would have anything to contribute that hasn't been done. I came up with a pretty easy way to install window trim. Hopefully this is helpful to the group.

I started taking pics with the second piece but they both go on the same way.

You will need four quick grips and some electrical tape.

Line the trim up in the seal all of the way around so you will be where you need to when you get to the corner. Then start at the leading edge.

I use quick grips to compress the trim into the groove in the seal.

Then I start working my way around using the grips.

As you work your way around. Use the electrical tape to keep the seal from sliding off of the glass or rolling to the back side. Be sure to keep tension on the top side before removing the clamps.

Keep working your way around. The corners get a little tricky. Just clamp the very closely and put lots of tape in the corners to hold it together.

Keep the trim lined up with the groove in the seal as you work your way around the corner.

If you have everything lined up correctly at the start, it should come together smoothly.



I forgot to take a picture but you will have to carefully cut the tape and remove the bottom sections of tape to expose the groove for the install in the car.

Ready to install.



It took me about an hour to install the seal/trim and put in the car.

Thinks for posting this thread. I've had the rear window seal sitting on the shelf for awhile waiting to do this. These tips should come in handy.

Quick release clamps are a good idea -- wish I had thought of that. Like ClickclickBoom I had sore hands for weeks afterwards. The double-pronged plastic trim from '88 is even harder to seat.
