Ok, installed a new oil temp sender and it still just sits on the bottom and never moves. I have the one with a single green and ?? stripe (I dont remember what the stripe is) wire attached to it. Any thoughts? Any methods of check to see if it is alive or dead with a m-meter?
I will also be replacing my oil pressure sender but that will be tomorrow since my roommate volunteered to get a crow's-foot from the hardware store but came back with a 1" instead of metric (even after I reminded hime that it would be metric). He has lots of training ahead. |

You may try running a new temp wire to see if you have a short in the sending wire..

Where does the wire terminate and ground? I just see it run from the sender and it dissappears under the intake manifold somewhere.
Thanks, Mike 86 Carrera |

it goes thru the 14 pin connector at the left side of the engine compartment, on it's way to the gauge. corrosion can happen in there sometimes. take the wire off the sender and with the key on, ground it and see if the gauge pegs. poor man's continuity test. good luck with the crowfoot. 9 out of 10 you have to remove the AC pump and bracket to get it loose. it's a tight one.

Thanks for the replies. Lord I hope I dont have to pull that sucker and it's bracket off. Compressor is easy but the bracket looked like a complete pain in the a$$ to remove. Besides, I just reinstalled all of that mess after the valve adjustment.

i've seem cases damaged from excessive torqueing on that sender. the thru fitting can break too. on 2.7s the case can split there, or the threads can rip out along with a chunk of case. enough said? if it doesn't loosen easily, you're way better off doing it the hard way. the muffler needs to come off on carreras to get at the bolts for the AC bracket. then take the thru fitting out and put the lower steel block in a vise so you can reef on it. not a hard job, just more time.
