3.0 Carb to Fuel Injection Conversion

Hello all, long time lurker, first time poster!

I have searched a lot about this topic but still don't have the information I need.

I have a 3.0L engine, JE pistons, Web Cams, Weber Carbs and I would like to convert it to a fuel injection using a 964 setup (intake, throttle, fuel injectors, harness, etc). Has anyone done a conversion like this before? If so, what did it entail? Any reason it cannot be done?

Lots of info converting 3.0Ls to carbs, but not the other way around.

Thanks in advance!
3.0Dude

What cam grind do you have?

The 964 manifold, fuel rails, throttle body will work just fine. The Motronic ECU will not work with this combination. There are many stand-alone engine management systems that can be user programmed to work. Search here for Megasquirt, Haltech, SDS, Motec, and others.

Yes, this type of conversion has been done before.

If I'm not mistaken, you cannot use the 964 intake due to it attaching to the heads via 3 studs per head. You will have to use the 84-89 carrera intake

There are adapters available. Or just put them on top of ITBs like the beautiful setup that Rothsport showed us.

The 3.2 intake is probably easier.

Please, don't post that picture ever again.
You guys are too close to my home and the last time I was there we spent an hour with me drooling over that setup and asking a zillion questions!

Fortunately, you were in the middle of moving your shop and were distracted so I was able to slip out before committing to buying anything ...

To the OP, search the web for bitz kit or bitzracing as an alternative as well. Works for me.
(for now)!

i would go with the PMO ITB set up, that would be at least the same looking as the webers and many parts would fit the same, all depends on your pockets. the 964 ITB set up os cool but the PMO's have that old skool look. and perform the same. Any way you go will be a steep learning curve.

Wow,
not sure what happened to the OP but that is what I have been wanting to do for a long time to my Weber carbed 3.0L.
Just done with the Webers and looking for something more modern.
Can you tell me what I am looking at there.
Man thats beautiful!
