Question Go without tie rod boot retainer springs?

I read in another thread that it is okay to NOT use retainer springs on these boots. Has anybody else found that this is okay?

I'm asking because the Turbo Tie Rod boot does not come with the springs. And the outboard end of the boot for the turbo tie rod requires a smaller diameter spring than the one that came off the boot for the standard tie rod.

The parts catalog gives these P/Ns:

5 901-347-308-00-OEM Retainer spring CARRERA 2 $4.50 INBOARD
6 901-347-309-00-OEM Retainer spring CARRERA 2 $4.50 OUTBOARD

Instead of fighting with the springs I used black zip ties but did not cinch them down tightly, to allow for some movement.
I had read a thread or something in a book at the time and it was a suggested tip. I don't recall if it was on pelican, though.

You should have something in place to keep some of the dirt/dust out.

the big end of the boot has an internal rubber ring that sits in the groove on the rack, effectively securing the boot from travelling. no clamp really needed.

OK...how to others get the larger/inner end of the boot onto the "groove" where its supposed to sit. Im installing turbo tie rods which has turned out to be just as big of a PITA as everyone else thought it was. Now I can NOT seem to be able to get the inner boot over the part it is supposed to rest on. Any suggestions? I have done many searches but can't find a thread that offers any tips on this and I really need to get this finished tonight if possible.
