Moral Dilemma

Here's a pickle!

I met this betty last weekend who's almost too good to be true:
  • Blonde
  • tan
  • medium-tall
  • into cars
  • does some of her own wrenching
  • likes the GT2 wing
  • likes - and knows how to operate - 5-point harnesses (and looks good under the shoulder straps, if you know what I mean)
  • has driven @ thunderhill
  • willing to be seen in public with me
So what could possibly be wrong? She's into the import scene. She drives an RSX that has an "intake" (don't they all?) and neon, and lusts for a coffee can exhaust and body kit. And wing. She's so into the 'import scene' she has tickets to the SEMA show in Vegas, and is going to the upcoming import drags @ Sears Point (I got your Infineon right here, buddy).

In short, she's got the car that I wouldn't be caught dead in.

Not only that, but when I'm around her, I can't even use the word 'rice' with a straight face. We went out for chinese food, and I committed a Freudian slip and ordered steamed Honda with my chow mein.

Cruel fate, why do you mock me so?

Thom it could be alot worse . She could just be interested in shopping or worse yet soap operas. At least when you start talking about cars she will have a clue.
Besides if she had a p-car you would probably feel like you had to compete with her.

Sounds like a generation gap. I'm thinking that the units who cannot appreciate a Guess Who concert might be GREAT rentals, but not for permanent purchase. Am I way off base?

Thom:

My man.. I understand your problem. The question is.. can she reform? Or if not, Would you rather have her into Jewlery? At least she'll understand when you buy p-car parts?

Or just race her for titles, sell the thing, and buy her an SC

Later!

Chuck

Right here and ready to go...

Well, at least she is into cars (using the loose definition), so you're halfway home. Do a couple of drives in your car and take her to Autofest. If you don't sense a change in her attitude then do the honorable thing...sleep with her and don't call her back (DOH! apologies to the sensitive members of the board).

I've found that my wife's interests have changed a bit over the years, and she has settled on a few that occupy her time (gardening and art glass/pottery collecting). If she is under 40 she can probably be retrained. My ex was into pretty much everything I was, and, well, she's my ex. But that's because something else was lacking but that's a whole other story It was entertaining having a spouse that could talk the talk and walk most of the walk in my hobby areas though.

I don't suppose you could just accept that she has different interests? Hopefully she won't feel the need to retrain you.

There are too many checks in the plus column to make the import thing matter. Some of those cars go like crazy.

If she's got a decent body kit and functioning intakes (forgive me, ladies), then who cares about her car?

I think you're on the right track, Supe. All I can say is:

American woman, stay away from me.

Go For IT!

You found a chick that will put up with you and your obsession. This way you can challenge her to races. And lets face it, all people have issues (all of them, pretty ones, ugly ones, smart ones, ricer ones). At least her issue is that she likes to go fast in an oriental mobile.
Show her the real way to handle your turbo (not a euphemism) and she may come around. I would suggest consulting Sarah from the board who has a 930 of her own.
If all else fails, see if she really is "built for speed" . Sorry I could resist.

Go for it. There are many many worse things for a woman to be interested in than "rice" cars. Maybe that is all she has been introduced to. I get somewhat tired of hearing the rice people get ripped non stop. I don't like the way ther cars look, or sound and would never buy one, but hey thats just my opinion. C'mon these people are still "car guys / gals", they just don't think they can afford (and most probably realistically can't afford) to buy a used 911 and do the upgrades and normal work on it. Someone needs to teach them.

I think you might slowly be able to move her away from the rice scene if you want. Bolt some nitrous on her car and blow the motor, then do like other people have said and buy her an SC.

Plus, looking good under the 4 point in my oinion can be VERY beneficial.

Bill

Thom,
She sounds fine. Compromise is the name of the game in any relationship (somebody tell my wife that). What percentage of women like cars this much in the first place? Few. Consider yourself very fortunate. It could be worst. She could be a transvestite that likes Porsches.
