For reference, this is my Project list, it includes new SS flex hoses - if you use your existing SC pads all you need besides this to go from SC to Carrera brakes is brake fluid... I use Castrol SRF or PFC RH665 or similar. For a road car, ATE Gold is fine.
That being said, other than my being forced to do this to move up a class in PCA club racing I would never do this upgrade expecting better performance. Just not enough different between the two to warrent the price, but that's me.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1393260131.jpg |
During build up for my suspension upgrade project on my SC, I picked up a pair of near-new condition Carrera front calipers. I knew I needed four new rotors, so I just bought front Carreras, and rear SC discs. SS lines all around, and new pads (same pads for Carrera/SC, so that was no additional cost) to round it out, along with ATE Gold.
So far I'm very happy with the setup (they're functionally identical with better heat dissipation up front). My understanding was that only the Carrera calipers & rotors were wider in the front, and that the SC and Carrera rears were the same width. Is this incorrect? |

HA! I'm quite familiar with that hard line blocking the lower caliper bolt! Luckily I had just the right tool, but was a bit surprised by its location.
Good to know about the rears. I probably wouldn't have changed mine anyway, as my car is mainly a road car, and I had found the Carrera fronts at a good price. Reminds me that I need to post my SC calipers in the classifieds. :) Quote:

Thanks. |
I would love to find someone with a set of 996 PFC 97's rears they want to sell. I have a set of new, in the box fronts and nothing for the rear.

I don't know if any of you guys making the carrera caliper swap would be interested, but I have a set of PFC pads in the 06 variety that I would like to sell. I upgraded to a 996 setup on mine and sold the old calipers, but the purchaser wasn't up for buying new pads as well. Anyway, right after I bedded these in, I made the swap to the new calipers... I paid $292.95 from OG Racing last year and would sell them for $225 shipped. Again, they are basically brand new..

Why didn't you go with 930 brakes? I paid $1500 for a set of four used 930 calipers in as new condition and bought new 930 rotors for around $100 each.
