great car thats the kind of thing id buy! my 911 was a mess too when i got it but not quite that bad. the air fitting with the two lines is for air shocks. you wont be needing that! I dont think youll be able to use that old decklid even for temporary. look at all the holes in they swiss cheezed it for more airflow.

Im also curious about how difficult it is to fit the light buckets (for indicators and grilles) from a pre 74 to the bottom of a 74+ fender. I have seen them in both metal and fiber and I feel like it could make the long hood a lot more feesable in the near future! Has anyone used these? Any results? Nico |
nico I have a carrera tail if you are interested?

Some updates and discoveries...
So some good discoveries were made today.. I think?
Can anyone confirm these are LWB items and not SWB? http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1394265200.jpg And the decision has been made, she will either have a ducktail or flat deck lid, no more turbo spoiler. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1394265841.jpg Lucky last the 20.7kg saving :D http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1394265932.jpg |

Just going off the pictures, it looks like someone did a decent conversion job. It looks to have the long wheelbase to me which means the Bananas were changed. Obviously whoever made the recent changes like the alternator is not the same person who did the conversion.

Are you going to leave it as a wide body?
|
I have to sub to this thread to see the final outcome.
Kudo's to you for picking this for a project, you have much more patience and balls than I taking on something like this, but I agree with your sentiment that it's a great car to learn on, not like you can fark anything up that isn't already. We were actually talking about this car at our Wednesday night GTG we had here in Brisbane last week. Are you on Porsche Forum Australia? I'm sure there would be a few there interested in following your adventure or who might be in Sydney and able to help with info etc. http://www.users.on.net/~quozl/Image...ideo/rally.gif Cheers Al |
thanks to Al to pointing me to this thread, looks like you've got a challenge ahead of you but it seems to have the makings of a great car underneath
don't listen to all the people telling you to sell - this will be a great project to sink your teeth into! (I just wish I'd found it first lol) |

So far it all seems quite easily reversible thankfully! Cant wait till my work space is complete (Car currently sitting next to the house) so that I can check it out properly underneath. Quote:

Looking forward to getting her going so that I can get to know some of the locals and have a chat! Quote:
Anyways, thought I would give you guys an update... Interior removed and tar is almost all gone. I ran out of patience and time as I only had around 5 hours of light between the 2 after works sittings in the car. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1394709273.jpg Damn this stuff is sticky! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1394709451.jpg Rear Seats are nice and tough solid metal! http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1394709343.jpg And the not so good.. Did someone say floor pans? Nothing I didn't already know, just more confronting when you clean it all up and its in front of you! Here we go :) |
someone told me freezing that tar with dry ice and it flakes right off, never tried it myself but sure I read it here somewhere. Someone will chime in and correct me or confirm it.
Cheers Al |

Good luck with this rescue. Looking forward to watching the progress!

good youre further into it - dont quit!
this "valley of tears" is something all of us had to go through, when atacking such a project. but it bounds you to the car, very rewarding. re/the bananas, please make a better picture(s), and lift the car (but yes, it loocks like LWB). re/floorpans: if you cant weld (no skill and7or no MIG), you can have someone come over to you with a MIG and help you, so you dont have to worry abot transporting the car around town. re/tar: either scrape it of heating with a torch (carful, it may burn!) or use sports ice-spray and an oszilating tool. airplaine paint remover is good too. |

As for my welding skills I believe they are adequate to complete the job, I will have to purchase a new welder as I don't have one and can't find anyone I can borrow one off... Also I asked earlier in the thread can anybody tell me about the different quality of the floor pans for sale by our host? It seems there are a few options. Also If I don't have a rotisserie to put the car on would you replace the floor pan in the sections needed only or still attempt to replace the whole section? Thanks again for all the help so far! Nico |
re/welder: some hardware stores lend these. at least in germany.
so if you have sortet out al to-weld issues, you can attend them in one go and return the welder when done. Quote:
if it leaves you with only a section, do a partial/practical replacement. then seam seal the edges and por-15 all over it. |
Nico have a look at Fishcops thread HERE for info on easily building a rotisserie.
He is in Brisbane so you could potentially ask hm any questions on how he put it together via the forum. Edit: This is his thread on building the alternative to a rotisserie Cheers Al |
