Fuel filters... the one i odered does NOT fit!

Guys I ordered a fuel filter about a well 5 months ago from AutoZone, which they said they had another store location which would be in my hands the next day.. I know .. i know .. i should have ordered one from Pelican! But i needed it fast! or so I thought.. it turmed out not to be the cause of the problem i was having. but this evening I was thinking i might as well throw it in as it had been a while and could use a clean one. Well! It does NOT fit.. it honestly looks JUST LIKE the old one .. the in Fitting fits fine but the out fitting is TOO BIG! what gives.. I know there is a LARGER Fuel Filter and all but this one is one of the smaller ones.
What is going on? has autozone made a mistake or what?the bottom fitting is about 1mm to big! or maybe this thing is simply machined wrong. now i have to put the old one back on to go to the local Import shop to hopefully get one or wait and use the old one till I can get a few thru Pelican.. any ideas as to why the one i have may be too small tho.. did they make a change ?

Eric,

The same thing happened to me when I purchased my first fuel filter for my car. Some of the 78 SC's had different size fittings on the fuel lines. Your car has the same size as PBS911's. I know because I gave him mine that didn't fit. The one you have is the one that fits my car. I don't know why they are like this, but it just is .

Cool

I interchanged the fittings on a filter. The problem I had was the fittings didn't match. I was trying to put a generic Bosch filter on a turbo. The filter was smaller and so were the fittings. The fittings however were removable. They were also removable on the old filter. So I just exchanged them with the ones on the new filter.

Worked for me.

Good luck,

Had the same problem with a 78SC, one of the early ones off the production line. Appears that they were still drawing parts out of the '77 bin, such as, for instance the fuel filter, and or the fuel line fittings to the filter. So, try the OEM '77 fuel filter, worked for me, or possibly you can swap the fittings a suggested above, but I am not that mechanically inclined. Good luck.
