Light Weight 964s

Who has the lightest 964 out there?

And how did you get there?

Those who have backdated the looks to that of the early "longhood" 911s are especially encouraged to post!

I like the idea of 964 L/W. Good power, modern suspension, great brakes and still a great looking car.

+1. Great cars. Tyson once told me the 964 and '74 are the two most underrated 911s in the production line.

Pauline 964 in this thread has one of the lightest that I have heard of.

great brakes
better than a 911, but nowhere near as good as a 993.

The turbos and RS did have very good brakes though.

Edited Copy of Pauline964 posts on the RennList thread that BV referenced:

The base car was a RS M003, with:
-no underseal, well a little bit of wax
-no insulation
-no power steering
-no airbags
-light wiring harness

To reduce mass, I have done so far:

-plastic headlight lenses
-removed bumper inserts front an rear
-removed fan on fender mounted oil cooler
-removed water tank
-removed heating system
-CF front wings
-CF doors
-CF door hinges
-CF RS America style wing with deck lid
-CF rear bumper
-CF transmission tunnel cover
-aluminum rear deck hinges
-BB headers with Fabspeed muffler
-removed undertrays (engine and transmission)
-one seat only
-removed everything inside the cabin a screwdriver can catch
-CF dash top
-drilled door handles
-plastic windows with flush frames all around except windshield
-2 piece front rotors with alu hats
- lightend flywheel and clutch (lighter than stock RS)
-CF mirrors
-5kg batterie
-singel belt drilled pulley
-momo steering
-no spare wheel/tools
-no driver sun visor

Most of my CF parts are wet layer parts due to budget reasons. I think that costs 6-7 kg.
Pictures due next week.
est. wt. 2,200 lbs. (apparently guesstimated...)

Alright, I cry foul.

That's a guesstimated weight, AND that car has some seriously hardcore weight reduction mods.

I say getting any kind of remotely streetable 964 below 2600 pounds is near impossible. (Hey, if I'm wrong then let's see them!)

For reference the same thread has an actual weight of a track 964 at 2535. Here are his details-

I have a few more pounds to shed as I'm only down to 2535 lbs (1152 kg) and would really like to get to 2250 or so. Things I have left to change/remove that could help get there:
Doors (gutted but still stock metal ones)
Lighter, better cage (and replace roof at that time)
Replace wiring harnesses
Lexan for windows (other than front, door windows are gone)
Smaller battery
Passenger seat (remove for races, keep for students)
Switch to 2-piece rotors with Aluminum hats
Remove the parking brake
And, if I get really desperate, remove the 6 lb of carpet I just put in to hide the ugly glue.

The reality is it's really hard to get the weight that low. The bits I have left to change/remove are unlikely to be the 275 lbs I'm looking for.

One man's definition of remotely streetable is another's luxury ride. Not sure what yours is. For comparison, the starting weight of my car is about 30# more than a 964. My 993 is more or less streetable, but rides like a sled and is quite noisy inside. I have AC/Cruise/Stereo, but otherwise had a big diet to get it down to 2800#. That other 200# would have to come from fiberglass body parts (hood, fenders, tail) and any last vestiges of an interior. At that point, I would no longer call it streetable and would be looking for a trailer.

I just looked at the POC approved weight chart for more data:

Model Year Model Designation Stock/Improved * Prepared** Off-Track***
1989-94 911C4 3197 3052 3106
1990-94 911C2 3031 2886 2940
1991-92 911 Turbo (3.3) 3274 3129 3183
1994 911 Turbo (3.6) 3274 3129 3183
1992-93 American Roadster 3252 3107 3161
1991-92 911 RS America RoW 2712 2567 2621
1993-94 911 RS America 2954 2809 2863
1995-98 993 3064 2919 2979
1995-97 993 Carrera RS 2800 2655 2715

* STOCK/IMPROVED – POC Stock class weight based on stock factory DIN weight specifications with full
factory installed fuel tank, spare tire and complete tool kit.
** PREPARED - POC minimum allowable weight based on stock weight less 100 lbs and less an additional 45
lbs. for the spare tire and complete tool kit, but with full “factory installed” fuel tank.
European DIN weight specification does not include USA import requirements (Door Beams, Catalytic, Bumper
Shocks and Emissions Equipment). An additional weight of 20kg/44lb has been added to the related
cars.

So a Euro (ROW) RS America has a prepared weight of 2567#. That's lighter metal (Al Hood) and thinner glass. Compare that to a US spec RSA in prepared is 2809. So I stand behind my assumption that it will take a serious loss of fixed weight - hood, fenders, etc.

You need to have glass. Other than that, no AC, lightweight exhaust and bumpers, gutted doors. Even then I think 2600 would be a challenge.
