Leaky oil line fittings

Team

Is there a trick to sealing the SSI oil line fittings on my SC? I recently installed a set of SSIs so replaced the old lines with brand new Dansk ones, and the line that plugs into the engine on the passenger side has a decent oil leak coming from the back of the fitting.

I've cleaned the mating surfaces as best I can and tightened it up very very tight (but not gorilla tight). Any other ideas on getting it sealed?

The leak is making my car even smellier than usual.

Same style as mine but without the ring/washer thing.

sounds like there is an imperfection in the mating surfaces. All you can really do is wait until your next oil change , take it off and inspect for imperfections. mine aren't that tight after my engine rebuild and they don't leak at all.

There is very little oil in the line, I would open the union and put some aviation permatex on the sealing surface.
That union won’t open again until you pull the engine.

Bruce is that just the litre or two sitting in the sump ? I have to pull the same line to do my SSI upgrade.

It needs to be pretty tight. I use by 3/4 torque wrench.

The oil balances sump to tank over several hours.
Even with the exhaust off, start and run for half minute and clear the sump, lots of noise.
You ll have a couple hours to work on it.
Getting the old line off, if the inner adaptor is loose, cut the old line and remove adaptor and connector.. replacing, tighten adaptor well.

Thanks for the advice all, I will give the Permatex a go.
What's the torque value on this fitting Draco?

Beware that this fitting in the engine case is also often found to have green threadlocker compound on it. So you may end up needing to chase/clean the threads to get the remnants out. Be careful removing the fitting, as you don't want the interference in the threads caused by the threadlocker to damage the threads. I'd be sure to heat the case if you encounter any resistance when you start loosening the fitting. I would do as Bruce says and just re-tighten it in place.
Torque spec for that adapter in the case is 120 Nm = 88 lb-ft.

There is no torque spec for the oil line connection. These fittings are spherical compression fittings and do not need to be super tight. Nice and snug is all they need to be. If there's a leak, it's usually because either the oil line is not aligning with the receiving fitting. Or, hopefully not, it's been over-tightened and the spherical sealing surfaces have been distorted by too much squish.

I had this problem with my front carrera cooler tried making it tight and kept leaking. I ended up making it looser. Just over finger tight fixed it
