A/C Question
I backdated engine this last year and have 46 PMOs, well engine compartment condenser had to go so I could close the hood due to contact with rain hats. Looking for condensing options, could go to a desert aire unit for front also install their filter drier with sub cooling. Was hoping to find someone who has already done this project and see what could be done
Thanks Pelicans

Sub-coolers rely on excess, leftover, refrigerant cooling capability downstream of the evaporator. Such capability does not exist during initial cabin cooldown of our cars as the system is struggling to reach that "target".
Once, if (BIG "F"), that "target" is reached the TXP begins throttling the level of refrigerant entering the evaporator thereby limiting the availability of downstream cooling. Even should the sub-cooler reach a point of "working" it will also raise the level of work the compressor must do. Add a rear spoiler and mount the rear lid condenser in between. Barring that a fender/wheelwell mounted condenser/blower combination would be my choice, with a RED DOT trinary pressure switch to protect the compressor and limit the high side pressure. Third element to control the blower. Last edited by wwest; 03-10-2014 at 08:50 AM.. |

"The rear spoiler would be my choice for the condenser"
I agree, provided you still have your's and don't need to purchase one. |

One of the few things that does not get an argument is the 911s are un-condensed from the factory. More condensers are good. The more the merrier if you want good AC. The heat from the rear condenser goes right into the engine.
Look around you can find other places to add condensers. The engine compartment is the easiest place to add one, not necessarily the best. I still have my factory condenser there.

A quality fender mount condenser is somewhere in the $1k range. Used spoiler, $400-600 plus repaint - ok $1,000. Used stock condenser is pretty cheap. However, a fancy-pants one is going to be $500-ish, right? Then you need to seal it off real well, oh yeah, room for fans, too - coupla hundred more. Yikes, you are sniffing at $2k.

Yes, hard call...
But consider that the rear spoiler greatly enhances the look of a 911. |

Here's a thread from a guy who installed a 993/964 condenser behind the left rear wheel. I'd like to do this myself this summer.
Retrofit of 993 AC condenser
