That is as much a 911S as it is a Carrera.
VIN 9110121311 makes it a 1970 911T Coupe Karmann. Tom |

Nice "very aftermarket" glass sunroof. This car has been screwed with literally from top to bottom. That appears to be a very new paintjob. Whomever is selling it appears to know very little about it and this thing needs some explanation.

"UNFORTUNETLY (sic) WE ARE NOT 100% SURE WHAT MODEL 911 THIS IS. IT HAS BEEN ALTERED FROM ITS ORIGINAL FORM AND HAS SOME MODIFICATIONS TO THE ENGINE AS WELL AS SUSPENSION AND BODY."
This might just be me, and I'm no car salesman, but surely before you try and sell a car you want to know exactly what it is you're selling? "COLLECTORS TYPE VEHICLE" Now, I'm no expert, but I've never heard of anyone being a collector of weird repainted, rebadged, rejigged, and generally messed-with cars, which is what this looks like to me...

Good eye on the sunroof. I didn't even notice it at first, and you can only see it well in one picture, this one:
The other pics, it almost looks like a reflection in the paint. I wonder why there are no better pics of it? ![]() Tom |

The car is definitely not original but still LOOKS to be in pretty nice condition. I love the color! Hate the tail, carrera badge, black window trim and the fact the seller doesn't know a T from a Carrera. But if I was in the market for an early car that was ready to go play, and had the chance to see this one in person, and the price was right, and a PPI was good, why not? I have definitely seen worse. Is the sellers ignorance enough to diminish the appeal of an early 911?

Yeah, while it's not at all what the seller represents it as, it is a nice color. There's no telling at all on the quality of the work -- what's visible looks pretty slipshod. Note the torn-out door pockets and the Home Depot approach to protecting the front AC. This is one that shouldn't change hands without a very thorough PPI.
It does have the curved rear license plate panel I put on the back of my car, although in Tom's picture the installation of it looks pretty sketchy. That's the first time I've seen one of those in a long time. It could be that the engine's been built up to something resembling S performance. Then again, it could be that it's had a whole lot of great things done to it, or a bunch of really terrible things. Since the seller knows so little about what he's selling, it's anybody's guess.

I wonder if the PO did the restoration, or just started it before he passed away? The car gives the impression of being started by someone that knew what he wanted (an RS track car), and finished by someone that knows nothing about Porsches. Some elements show an attention to detail, and others...not so much. I suspect that a PPI would tell a lot more than the seller says. It can't be a coincidence that the car is a low-mileage 1970 911T - it's the perfect basis for a Carrera RS lightweight project.
As for the color, Gulf Blue seems too loud, although I like Gulf Orange. Emanuel

Nice detective work Dan! The car was painted the same color as the sign lettering - probably the leftover sign paint.
Yet another eBay 911 ad debunked by the stalwart Pelican watchdogs. |

Looks like a pretty cool little car to me. Im not one for the big tail, but its a hotrod, so it may appeal to someone else. The pics make it look like it was fairly well constructed. Maybe the sellers lack of knowledge is a good thing ??? They arent claiming that its an original car.....and if the body is solid and the drivetrain is tight I dont see why it wouldnt be worth 12K for someone who was looking for a flashy hotrod 911.

The more I look at the car the more I like it. Except for the engine. The cylinders are rusted so I would assume T P/C's. But who knows? Not the seller! Plus it looks like rear Bilsteins? Maybe a nice suspension package on the car? Again, who knows! They buyer has to tear down the car to know what he bought. But I still LOVE the color!
I also agree the sellers ignorance could be a good thing to a knowledgeable buyer. I wish the car was closer! BK |

You guys are great at picking this stuff out. I admit, I can't look at photographs and pick out the small details. The only thing I saw was that he tried to wipe out the CVS pharmacy sign in the rear.
Doesn't seem like a half-bad car if the PPI would check out. Looking at the engine from underneath though, it's obvious that this car is a 'looker' and not a sleeper. I would suspect that the previous owner spent all their money on the cosmetics, and nothing on the actual chassis or drivetrain... -Wayne

You know, we're like those two alien guys who watch the bad movies on the big screen. Someone showed that to me once, what is that, like MST1000 or something?

LOL! I've seen that too, but forgot about it until you mentioned it. We need to superimpose the shadows of 2 Pelicans and a row of theater seats on the bottom of the photos we steal from eBay. ![]() |

Mystery Science Theater 3000 (MST3K). I have a number of the early episodes on tape. The original "cast" (on the ship) was Joel, Crow T. Robot, Tom Servo, Gypsy, and Cambot. One of the funniest shows around...

Good value..
By the looks of what I see, this car is a great value. It is very apparent that the ex-owner spent mucho dinero on the mods:
Carrera valence After market air complete repaint ( you can see there are some panels that do not match, which would indicate the SC flairs were added after the paint and so were the rockers) S shroud..but probably not a S motor No front map pockets ( that's OK) Nice seats and new carpet Front oil cooler Nice stereo 16's all around Turbo ( factory) tail Nice job on rear valence ( definitely custom work) From what I see, this is a 3.6 upgrade ready to go, and for $ 13 grand to boot.. BTW, "Cato" is a shop in Escondido, CA known for custom work. MY guess is the ex-owner has got well over $20 grand in this car |

I would like to see a better pic of the sunroof. A hack job sunroof is a deal breaker, as far as I am concerned, no matter how nice everything else is.
