New Alternator Question
Hi-
While installing some new gauges(ironically a volt meter) I somehow managed to do harm to my alternator-the light came on and the alternator was not charging. I just replaced the alternator and my new volt meter is reading above 13 volts but I have one of those volt meters that plug into the lighter socket and that gauge reads 14.45 volts. I have a DVM-how can I test to see what I'm really charging at. Also is the 14.45 volts is too high? With just the key on(car not running) my new volt meter reads 13 volts. Thanks Carl |

Anyone know if 14.4 volts is too high? I have a few more days before I have to keep the alternator or return it.
Thanks |

That's correct with the engine running and about 12.8 with the battery fully charged. And the engine off.
