Targa to Coupe conversion
I have seen a couple of Targa to Coupe conversions, but not too much info posted. Anyone have any info to contribute? I have an opportunity to pickup a cheap 70E targa tub that is pretty good, but lacking most of the important pieces. Just kicking around the idea of major surgery and building a cheap, it that word even exists in the Porsche world, Hotrod.

ideally, you would need a very large cut from a coupe shell. That would include all the way thru the rear lid /rear cowl section. Then the surround between the c and b pillars so you have the complete coupe outline. Finally the front A pillar section, preferably including the front cowl. But not 100% needed.
Lots of measuring, measuring and measuring some more. Then you cut, match it up, take care to overlap the various sections. You should buy a pair of coupe doors complete with trim as well. The targa doors can be modified, but for the time being, 74-89 doors are still plentiful and fit the 70 chassis just fine. Weld up the mirror holes, send the trim out for polish and bright dip anodizing. wanna do it cheap? buy a fiberglass one piece roof, and fill in the void areas. It will never be 100% right, but money talks d

Or... Another idea (and this idea is even better
)Why not turn it into a Speedster? These early cars make gorgeous Speedsters. |

Well, it's going to be bastardized (b1tchalized?) anyway. Might as well make it something interesting and not just another, albeit slightly odd, coupe.

Chris is doing one "on the cheap" - if I may say so on the Mulholland thread here:
You will want to go all the way to the end. Of course it is a good read too otherwise, but the targa to coupe action starts very far back: What happened to the Mulholland "King of the Hill" RSR? G |

No kidding!
My thought: Find someone who owns a coupe and loves your targa...trade 'em

The donor targa is an abandoned project w no hope of ever becoming anything other than scrap. No motor or trans. Barely has a chance of becoming a bastard coupe at this point.

in that case would it be worth reinforcing/bracing the rear section to the windshield by tying in a roll cage and then have a hard panel fabbed to make it a coupe? could be done with complete roll cage if desired and adds reinforcement at the same time.
