URO products and good?? *posted link*
I'm tackling the front suspension on my '82 SC and was sourcing parts online for turbo tie rod, bushings, ball joint, etc. I came across this eBay listing for a complete kit from URO.
Anyone ever installed these parts and have some feedback? This is almost as much as a turbo tie rod kit alone.....which makes me a little leery. Thanks all. Matt |

i had URO window switches for my 87; went through 4 switches...junk. I finally bought Porsche switches and haven't had problems since.
I'd stick with Porsche /OEM stuff

Our host sells suspension bushings from URO. I've used some without any trouble.
Although I completely understand the impulse to save money on parts buying, allow me to ask a question... If these parts turn out to be crap, do you really want to re-do the installation work? For example, you wouldn't want to go cheap on main bearings because the work to replace them would be such a huge hassle. Some of the suspension bits are pretty annoying/time consuming to work on. What's your time worth, and is it worth the risk of needing to do the job twice? Just my .02c. Cheers! -Dan

That kit is missing some pretty important pieces, the primary example is the ball joint nuts. They are very special beasts that require a special tool, then there is a special washer that goes beneath to retain the ball joint nut. The existing parts will be destroyed in removal - they are one time use parts. (same with the nut that goes on the pinch bolt)
It may not be as big a deal, but it also doesn't include the strut cap bushing. After you've bought the additional parts you will need to do the job, you'll be at the same amount of money here as ebay - and Pelican will stand by their products. As for the URO rubber bushings for the front A arms, they're fine. Our host sells them too. (or at least used to.) My opinion - get the parts from a reputable seller, Pelican, Auto Atlanta, Stoddard, Sierra Madre, or other, and only do the job once. You'll sleep better knowing that it's done right.

they are cheap Chinese parts, I wouldn't use them for critical stuff like suspension/brakes/oil system.

I have a Uro brake master cylinder. It seems to be working fine. The reason I went with the Uro was the fact that several very reputable posters have commented on here about new Czech made Ate MCs having problems.
Unfortunately, most new auto parts are pretty low quality these days. Last edited by Jrboulder; 03-18-2014 at 10:20 AM.. |

If you install aftermarket parts on your Porsche, at what point does it cease to be a Porsche?
Sums up my feeling about it.

URO sent me a couple of improved window switches after i commented on the plastic retainer clips breaking off. they look like the originals now. they seem to be open to your feedback. hoping the DME relays are next.

Some of the Uro stuff is just fine. For suspension hard parts, I'd stick with Lemfoerder.

So far I only have experience with URO fuel pump relay for my '79SC. I bought a new URO relay as a back-up and it lasted about 12 month driving about 1000 miles. I still have the original Porsche fuel pump relay that still works properly after 35 years and 60,000 miles!

For tie rods only go with Lemfoerder. There is no other improvement you are going to make to this car that will have the impact of going to turbo tie rods. Why go cheap? It's a no brainer.
I'll loan you the correct spanner wrench if that will help. And on bushings, go to youtube and look at the comparison Elephant does with "the other brand". You will see exactly why we use Elephant. Again, for the price difference it's not even worthy of conversation. Simply go with the better brand. |

Just to make a comment.
Lemfoerder on the water cooled wasn't good at all. I snapped bushings in the control arms and ball joints. I went with OEM Febi. Rubber seals made by URO were junk. Just poor fit. That is my only experience with the brand in the air-cool stuff. Replaced with OEM I have to agree with previous post. I like to do things right the first time. So why try to save a buck or two with materials or parts that are questionable?...

The URO parts I have seen have all been poor in terms of fitment. I would not recommend these parts for anything at the moment. If they get better maybe but my preference is always OEM.

What a coincidence....Today, the passenger side window regulator on my wife's car went kaput for the 2nd time in 13 months (BMW 7 series). I replaced the original one last year with (yeah, you guessed it) a URO part. Why? Because the OEM regulator only comes with the motor, which I didn't need. OEM part (with motor) costs over $300. URO part came without the motor for $135.
Now, I'm buying the OEM because the URO part took a schitt over 13 months. So instead of saving $165, I actually spent $435 and am doing the job twice. And this is not the first time I've been burned by URO parts. I guess I didn't learn my lesson on the two occasions with a prior Land Rover. The only URO part I've ever put in the Porsche was a set of amber fog light lenses. I sweated the decision, but figured there was nothing mechanical about it and took the risk. Knock on wood. Needless to say, I will never put anything of a mechanical or electrical nature made by URO on any more of my vehicles.

I think a non-mechanical URO part might be O.K., I had a good quality sump screen for my SC from URO - but any electronic or mechanical part may be questionable. I guess it's best to ask for feedback on specific parts before they are ordered. |

Tried a URO windshield seal - rubber was too stiff and the seal would not stay on the glass.
