Bolt coming out of left side of block

Can anyone tell me what this bolt coming out of the block is for?

It seems to be where my oil leak is coming from.

I don't want to go tightening down until I'm sure what it is.

Thanks for the help.

Crankcase bolt. 35 Nm of torque on the SC. 26 ft lbs.

Look at the other side and see if there is a match i.e., bolt goes thru case. I replaced all the seals on mine when I did my top end job in the mid 90's. I did not split the case but only did one bolt at a time.

You may want to buy a couple of seals, take the nuts and half moon washer thingies off, replace the seals - I think they are o-rings - and then sleep well.

I can post pic from the spec book if you want to be conservative.

blind hole. it will leak until you get the stud out and plug the hole. find a short, about one inch long, 10mm bolt, tap the hole just enough to get the bolt to seat with an aluminum sealing ring under it. the hole is just the right size for a 10mm tap. no harm done when you do a teardown for the next o'haul and timesert the other case half for the original stud.
