3.6 Conversion Exhaust
Steve at Instant G has had problems with his supplier of the McNeil Exhaust. He is now offering the B&B headers with flowmaster, possibly the McNeil available later though. Anyone using the McNeil and B&B combo with suggestions? I'm trying to make a decision but for now I've left it in Steve's court. I obviously want it all: fitment, sound, longevity, install ease, and heat. Any other suggestions out there? Thanks, MGH

Porcure some 993 heat exchangers and the factory components needed for heat. Have Timmins modify them to work with the "Happy Crab" muffler that he sells. Makes for a clean installation.

I thought the McNeil Exhaust was the Happy crab. Are they different?

I've got the B&B headers and Flowmaster. I like 'em.

I have been looking at this and I think one would be hard pressed to find advantage over the 993 HE's

I picked up a set of 993 HE's recently to go onto my (still in pieces) 964 motor, I think I paid 200 bucks. Just need to get the flanges rotated. Anyone recommend someone on the west coast to do this? Hard to beat them for the price.
Thanks, Jeff

I had already paid for the McNeil so now it looks like I'm going to the B&B's with the Flowmaster muffler like Jack. I've heard that set up sounds pretty good. How is the sound Jack? MGH

Dave at Triad makes a final exhaust that fits the goofy, angled flanges of the stock 993 exhaust. I think. He's made them before.

Not to dis' the Flowmaster, but I have B & B headers with an $80 Dynomax muffler. (#17725) I wouldn't change it for any other setup I've heard. Not as loud and raw as the Flowmaster, but a beautiful sound. It screams at high RPMs, but is quieter at idle. I get comments all the time. Even the folks at TRE liked the sound.

I have been trying to find a dual in dual out muffler with an H pattern to modify for fitment to my 95 3.6 without the expense of a happy crab or other. It needs to be really short like the happy crab to work with the 993 flanges which are pretty close together. Anyone know where to source one that is univeral for a few hundred bucks? Flowmaster has one but it is a bit to long and would require a radical bend to meet with factory headers. I guess when used with the B & B headers it works fine since they are wider than the stock 993 headers. This is going to be my next project for the summer. I have curently got the factory cat with welded tips. Sounds ok but I know that a free flowing muffler would give me more power.

BTDT - Been there done that...
I have a 92 c2 cab with b&b headers w/heat and b&b muffler. VERY BAD RESONANCE at 2-3K rpm. What would I need to do to dump the muffler and install one of these others? Cost? Greg DeBord unhappy with the B&B people and their muffler.

The muffler is the last part of my conversion that I haven't completed yet. Can anyone with the Dynamax/Flowmaster or custom muffler chime in on a ballpark price? I'm going to a muffler shop early next week to get my car back on the road and would like to know what to expect. Thanks.

JMHO, Stock 993 HE's and Steve's & Kenny's Happy crab muffler(HCM) were the best and cheapest way to go for me. Having heat was a must. The HCM is loud but mellow.

Flowmaster is like $99 at www.Jegs.com . I'm pretty sure it's the 80 Series, part number 389-42582, but you could also look into the 50 series, part number 389-524554.

Good source Jack....got a source for the 993 flanges and the 2.5 double bends? Or did you just go to a muffler shop and have them fab them?
I have a set of 993 HEs that have the flanges rotated...

I don't know if a Flowmaster would fit between the 993's outlets, which are closer together than you usually see. With my B&B, I just went to my local muffler shop and had them do it all. (Those guys work cheap, compared to anything Porsche-related.)
Someone on this board must have a jig for the 993 flanges. Or I suppose you could cut them, bolt them onto the car, and tack-weld from there? For the sake of future searchers, here's my setup: ![]()

I checked the dimensions and the flowmaster dual in/dual out it is way to wide for the factory 993 HE's. The happy crab is a short muffler with resonator's welded on all the way to the tips to quiet it down some. If we could only find a source for good SS mufflers that were about the same size fabbing something up would not be that hard and the cost savings would be BIG!
