These didn't use to be a problem and functioned as expected. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1589649328.jpg

That is strange.

You did not install any LEDs in your oil and temp gauge and parking brake lamp ?

Looks to me like you've put an LED in the very top warning light hole. That was added as an "overheat" warning for the Sportomatic transmission (which shared the engine oil), through at least the middies and up through the 1980 SCs.

The hole for gauge illumination is level with the 2nd warning light and to the right of it as you sit in the driver's seat; or on the left, with the gauge face down in front of you - marked #2 in this photo of the back of the instrument porwolf posted:

Thanks. Yup, duh, when I inserted the bulb holder back into the gauge, I put it in the wrong hole. Ha.
Fixed and thanks again.
Great lights, work very well.

It's always good when it's a simple fix.

BONEHEAD question......

Hi Fellas.......

Can someone post a picture of WHERE this bulb plugs into?

Back story to this post is:

Recently did some detailing an poked around UNDER the dash............ I ended up finding THIS (circled bulb) in the driver side floor mat..... at the moment I didnt really think about it but thought it was odd to randomly find a bulb on the floor mat.

FAST FORWARD A FEW WEEKS........

I drove me car at NIGHT and noticed my instrument panel DID NOT light up.... my headlights were on just fine, so were my running lights. I thought maybe the dimmer got moved during detailing, it was not, no lights on panel.

As I started to get anxious about ANOTHER project.... I remembered I had found that bulb on the floor mat. It is odd that it would randomly fall out but I thought it may be the issue......

I just need to find where the bulb get plugged into.....

Thats my request.... can someone post a picture of WHERE it need to be plugged into?

My instrumentation panel has always worked with no issues...... Since I drove it at night, I noticed the lights were out... otherwise who knows how much time would have gone by as i normally dont drive the 911 at night......

I know its the original type bulb, I know there are options to replace and improve..... (maybe down the road) I am just looking to get my light to work again)

see attached picture......

Also...... since the lights to the speedo/tach/clock/fuel gauge all stopped working..... maybe the fuse went out.......

I need to check the fuse 1st I guess.

Where is this fuse? the panel in the Frunk? which one?.......

Help please.......

If you have all original bulbs in you gauges, most of the bulbs look like the one you circled, depending what year your car is.

The best way to find out is to pull out the gauges and look. There must be a socket hanging out where the bulb belongs to.

There is no fuse for the instrument lights in the 911. The power comes direct from the light switch 58a, see image below (from another post here at the forum). That's why I recommend to add a fuse between the light switch and the instrument lights.

http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1446244917.jpg

This could be the light switch, or the wire from the switch to the instrument lights is not connected. There must be a black/blue wire connected to terminal 58a. Or the bulbs are do dim that you think there are not on.

I have a 74 911

All original bulbs in panel.

Ok got home.

Started to poke around.

Checked things out, carefully....

No blown fuses.

Dimmer was turned off.

Turned dimmer on now and 4 of the 5 gauges turned on!

The speedo illumination light did not come on.

Other lights on speedo DID come on.

Sooooo im 99% sure the illumination BULB is out on my speedo!

Anyone have a LINK to where I can get that particular bulb?

PRE-H20 04-30-2021 01:11 PM

Engelbert .... wow thank you......... there's quite a bit of information there and lots to consider..... I didn't know there was NOT a fuse for the instrumentation panel... wow. i think that project might be coming up (adding a fuse between the switch and the panel) NOT having one doesn't make a lot of sense even to a lightweight mech like me!

do you have a link or a place where i can get that PARTICULAR bulb?

Ebay is my friend.....

I don't have the regular bulbs, but if you like to switch to LEDs and can see how fast you go: Carmagic, LED Lights for Classic Porsches

Fuse: Carmagic, LED Lights for Classic Porsches
