I found this SC that sounds very cheap, but looks good and has a rebuilt engine. Here is what the ad says :

1979 PORSCHE 911 Coupe 911 COUPE, SILVER
BLUE WITH BLUE LEATHER, VERY NICE

COMPLETELY REBUILT, RUNS AND DRIVES

This is not for me, I already have one. I was just curious to hear your comments...

Let's face it, for that price, the only reason you'd turn it down is if it had a salvage title or something where the frame/body was literally destroyed in some way. Also, if it had 914 style rust.
Otherwise; sounds like a good deal to me.

And the modern rims look fine. I don't have a problem with 964/993 style rims on the older cars. I think they look sleek and cool.

Where is this car? It looks like a fun project car to me for that price! Aside from the blue seats, I like that color too.

There's something going on with that car. I saw it for sale ~4 months ago at ~$10,500.
Is it missing a huge chunk of the chin spoiler?

The Car is near Manhattan, it is a sports car dealer form which I bought mine, and I have been happy with it. They have lots of good deals. Like a 1991 C2 Targa, 90K miles for $19900... Hereis their web site, search the Porsche inventory...

Maybe the engine was rebuilt by Motor Meister. THAT would explain the low pice

well, if they are like some of the dealers out here in SoCal, that car is made from 3 or 4 that have been welded together...and the title has been washed.

I get nervous about dealers that have "good deals". They are in the business of making money, not cutting people a break. A little body work, some paint, viola...pretty 911.

I'm with nostatic. Most, if not all car dealers are in it to make money, not friends. Buyer beware.

I don't think it's too good to be true, 180K is a lot of miles. Even with a rebuilt motor, that car's gonna be due for a lot of other things that could nickel and dime you to death. No problem for the people here, but you need to find that buyer OK with doing their own work. I'd say if there were docs on the rebuild it could be a nice buy.

I paid more than that for my 78SC, and it needed paint and interior. It was also blue on blue, and had a completely rebuilt drive train. Of course it had Fuchs (which are now somewhere in the New York area) and it is the more desirable Targa.

Sounds like a good deal as long as the car is straight, rust free and the motor checks out.

You almost had me thinking it was good, and then I clicked that link. Gullwing Motorcars is sort of notorious for amazing deals on cars that either look better than they are or are simply awful - they tend to sell cars purchased from estates or stuff other dealers won't even try to saddle you with.

Few dealers sell used Porsches that are more than 15 years old anyway. This dealer is more like an antique store, you can find everything there. When I went to buy my SC, there was a red 911 Targa that had been converted into a cab, but the top frame was broken. And there was a big puddle of oil under the car. The car had been butchered !!! This place is not for the faint of heart...but when I found my SC there, I knew it was a good one. And time has proven me right. They buy and sell. That is it. No warranty, no documentation. It is the buyer`s responsibility to
know what he is buying. I guess this is why their prices are so low. But I think some of the cars are really good deals. At least, mine was.

Maybe where you are that is true, but there are *plenty* of independent dealerships in SoCal that sell older p-cars. Most of the cars have no history, and many are hack jobs waiting for unsuspecting buyers. There are a few decent ones, but not many.

If they do happen to have that LeBaron, it better include the pencil with the teeth marks on it. The car isn't worth diddly without that pencil to authenticate it!

There's a Porsche-Audi dealer here in Highland Park, IL (The Exchange) that always seems to have at least one older Carrera or SC in outstanding condition. Where they find these cars, I do not know. Over the last couple years, I must have seen ten of these cars advertised on their site and in their ads. They do a nice job of providing a good selection of solid Porsches for the buyer.
