Exclamation Help! Excessive Smoking on Startup - 1980 911SC

Bit petrified at what this may entail - so apologies in advance if I don't make sense.

This just happened today. Start the car after shopping for about 15 mins and it absolutlely billows blue-ish white smoke out the back.

I limp the car home - no loss in power - and smoking's stopped once the car is actually moving. At home, idles fine, no weird sounds from the engine, and NO smoke even when I rev it.

I just had the oil changed with 15W50 Motul 300V last week and have about 150 miles since then. No issues during that time.

Please help! Will check the oil level now and report back. Just didn't want to drive it more in case it is something catastrophic. Car has 120k miles on it and had a top end done about 20-30k ago by the PO.

One more thing to add, it didn't smoke at all when I started her for the first time this morning. Only when warm.

Update: just started the car - no smoking at all! Checked the oil level, warm, idling, and it was about 4” past MAX. Will definitely drain but why would it start smoking AFTER all this time and miles?

You changed the oil last week according to your first post.
Definitely overfilled.
You do know to check the oil level with the car parked on a level surface while idling and fully up to operating temperature after a 20 minute highway drive ...

My car does the same: It only smokes on the way back to the office after a 45 minute lunch break! To/from the office, or 100 miles each way to Mom's, no problem. To lunch, no problem, but drive back after, smokes like a fiend. I accept it as part of the charm!

Check the oil when warm and the gauge needle is in the mid range. Leave engine running, while on level ground, check the dip stick. Best level is BELOW the mid range.

There is supposed to be a restrictor in the breather line to the intake.....sometimes they get old and crumble.....

Thanks Pelican. Below are pictures of the culprit... It seems a shopfront full of watercooled Porsches =/= knowledge with our aircooled cars. Drained out about 1.5 quarts and no more smoke!
