911's leaving the US
I happened to be in a warehouse today in Hudson County, NJ where the tenant ships cars overseas. Their business includes used "regular" cars going to Eastern European and African destinations as well as "collector" cars mostly going to Europe.
They had a decent number of beautiful 911's and 356's that will likely never return to our shores. I thought I would share a few sad goodbye's here. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

I'll be importing an 87 Carrera to the US in a few months, if that helps.
"Returning" might be more accurate.

This has been going on for a very long time in air-cooled vintage VW buses - mainly pre-68 split windows. Over the last 6 or so years I've sold a number of split-window buses and refused overseas buyers for exactly this reason. A number of people on the Samba have said that these buses have a way of returning to the US, but I haven't seen it. It's really up to sellers . . .

Saw the same thing with Harleys in the late 80's and 90's. Couldn't find a decent older bike.

all those craigslist ads searching for any aircooled 911, 912, 356, do us all a favor and flag them regularly. pretty soon there will be none around and you won't be able to afford another one, so hang onto what you have. i don't want to switch to subaru service.

Banned but not out, yet..

My old 911 went to the Philipines this year and never even got a post card. Sure she had her share of issues... But I never had to tell her that her butt looked big.

It's called free market capitalism. They have less supply and a lot of demand. So their buyers will pay more than our buyers. If you don't like capitalism move to China...

These Astons Bentleys & Healeys were loved and pampered in Australia, while the Brits were just throwing them away for scrap. now the English are in the colonies searching for these cars to take them back. For example a nice RHD Dino Ferrari is half the price in Australia than in the UK & in far better basic condition if it spent its early years here. It is much easier to own/drive a LHD 911 in Australia now, so local owners dont bother to convert them. I predict in the next few years that these cars with proper US pedigrees will be returning. Took me way too long to make up my mind to fulfill a boyhood dream, find the one I wanted, and pull the trigger. Now I can't believe I waited so long. Suburu's never! P.S. Love your Porsche swap meet. Best thing on my calendar the last 3 years, thanks!

I'd heard from Park Place in Bellevue, WA that about 80% of the 993's that they sell are going straight to Germany. I'm keeping an eye on the Ferrari market to see if we get to a point where depreciating 612's and appreciating 993's get to an even trade. I sort of wonder if there'd be a way to work directly with a European buyer to swap for a 612/575 there (which are cheap) for my 993 here (which is getting expensive).
