sumitomo or michelin
buying tires today. i would like to put nice tires on the 930 since the alignment seems good, except a little neg camber on the right rear based on the wear of the tires. i never could put nice tires on my last 911 becuase the rears would wear out so fast on the inside.
problem now is $320 difrference, $957 for the mich. and $640 for sumo. i think the sumo will wear out faster based on the UTQG. 500 vs 380. i need aluminum injector blcoks which are $500.

The Sumos wear out faster because they aren't the same quality as the Michelins. A lot of the sport compact kids (Subaru,Mitsu,Honacura) run the Sumos because they get similar performance reviews. I personally don't think they perform as well, or last as long. I run Michelins.

Hard to beat Michelin's but there is a price premium. You may want to consider Continental Extreme Contact DW's...Also a highley rated tire that doesnt break the bank.

Also depend on how many annual miles you plan to put on the car.

Hankook makes great tires for the price. I've used the V12s on the street and RS3s on the track to great success. I also have Sumitomo HTRs on my SC currently, and they only OK in my opinion.

I have the Sumitomo's on my GTO. The sidewalls are a little soft (so I run higher air pressures) but otherwise a good tire. I havent bought Michelins in years; overrated in my book. Hankook's are good too but as I recall, the sizes dont translate well to the 15" wheels on my 911. We do have the V-12's on the Speed6.
I have found that the weight of the car will make a tremendous difference in life of a tire. The wear ratings, type of driver and quality of roads can be a factor too. Climate and storage would also affect the wear.

i know, bringing up tires is almost like bringing up oil. i was jsut having a hard time justifying the extra money but i wanted a nice set of tires at least once on the car.
i was worried about the mich. i am not sure they are what they use to be. kinda like die hard batteries. that use to be THE battery to have. not any more. i dont think they are any better than a walmart battery.

When I lived in the Bay Area I always took my cars to Roger Kraus Racing...

Bridgestone Potenzas are a good compromise for cost, performance, quality and longevity in my opinion.
