Need Advice on 85 Carrera Speedometer Problem

Both main odometer and trip odometer on my 85 Carrera work fine, but the speedometer sticks at "0". If I tap the face of the speedometer, it works for a while and sticks at "0' again. Also quits working about every time I stop.
Sure could use some advice on what it may and how to check--Speedometer only, Sending Unit, or wiring problem.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Disconnect the battery. Pull the clock then reach behind and push out the speedo carefully, be gentle as not to pull out the wiring from behind.

Check the ground is clean and secure. If nice and clean/tight. go to the tunnel access to see if the connection there is not loose, if tight then go to the gear box and check it is snug. If you want to insure the sensor works, remove at gear box and run a magnet over it, the speedo should bounce, ask a helper to watch it while you test it.

But I think it is the ground, it usually is.

Worse case, the green wire inside the speedo could have a broken solder.

Gsteven

Thank you for the help. I will do as you suggested. This is my first Porsche. Have had it for two months and am learning something new everyday. It is in very good condition for its age, but I have been a British car person for years (Austin Healey), and everything Porsche is new to me.
Thanks again
