901 Transmission cover clutch cable hole is no more...

Any suggestions for repairing my worn 901 case (short of the obvious of buying a new billet cover)? The hole for the clutch cable sheath is totally worn through (see pic).

I was considering grinding the old material off to make it flat, drilling a pair of shallow holes and tapping to install a new bushing.

fix?:

Thanks,

Karl

I would suggest putting a want-to-buy (WTB) ad on the classifieds for a good used side cover. Shouldn't be too expensive, as there's a lot of 901 transmissions lying around. Then you can use the existing side cover for "practice" to work on your drill-block idea.

If all else fails, CMS seems to have the best deal going for the billet side plate.

Mine looked like that when I got my '71. I found a welder who fixed it. 30 years later it is still good.
