Sparco evo 2's or evo 3's?

After reading about every post i can find i think i am going to pick up a pair of evo 2 or evo 3. Being 6'5 and 250 pounds with very broad shoulders i need a big seat. Is there anyone one here that is running an evo 2 or evo 3? If so, did you like it and how did it fit?

thanks,

Scott

Oh, i am running a 79 930 and going to be doing as many DE and autocrosses i can find this summer.

The GT3 seats are cool but very narrow.

I think you're on the right track with the Sparco's, try a search, I know they've been discussed before, both the 2 and 3.

I use a Recaro Pole Position. Not bad on width but the shoulder harness holes are a little low for my 6' 3". I take out the seat padding at the track.

I have Evo 2s and am 6'3" and about 220. I would think that for your size, I would opt for the Evo 3s. I am a snug fit in the 2s.

They are wonderful seats, though. I love mine.

However...check overall width ( if different) along the shoulder "wings" of the seats.

In a 911, with Evo2's....the shoulder areas between the two seats almost touch one another...as WELL AS each seat being close to touching the inside edge of the doors. Precious little room !!

I have been told that the increased width of the evo 3's over ther 2's can be a problem fitting in the cab?? Does someone out there have 3's?

I have twin EVO2's in my '83 Coupe. They are set at different heights but you can see that the inboard wings would come close to touching if they were mounted at the same height. Also, the outboard wings are currently touching the doors. I can't imagine twin EVO3's or an EVO2/EVO3 would fit because the EVO3 is listed as being almost 2" wider across the wings.

I checked the wings and they are 25.59 across. The evo 2's are 23.66. That's a big difference. Does any one have evo 3's in a 911? Any other ideas would be great. I did a search and didn't find anything really on a evo 3, I might of missed one though.

Zach, thanks for calling me out I do wear a size 36-37 pants so I don't have a giant A$$ or anything.

The seats don't have to match, unless you are going to spend an equal amount of time in the pax seat. Assuming the 3 fits at all, why not get an Evo 3 for the driver's side, and an Evo 2 for the pax?

If what cardsrule says is correct ( 25.6" vs. 23.7")...

then two Evo2's will touch the doors AND each other...or very close to that. Evo 3 and 2 pairing....or 3/3... will then NOT fit !!

Maybe i could put in an evo 3 for the driver and a evo 1 in for the pax. I don't really plan on sitting on that side much anyway. the base evo's wings are 23.62, only .02 smaller than the evo 2's. Man i wish some one had some evo 3's in a 911. Oh it might be cool to be the first

attached is a picture of me and my 930, some times i don't believe i fit in it either

sports seats won't work. I will need a race seat in the future.

I think you have enough dimensional information here to know what combo's will work or not... I'm simply tellin' ya that two Evo2's together ( each supposedly at 23.7" at the wings) are as tight as you can go in a 911 tub.....

just gotta do the math !!...

Scott -

Great thread. Just about to ask the same question as I'm shopping around.

I've heard the same concern re the Evo 3 - likely won't fit 2 in a 911/930.

I'm 6-2, 210 and leaning towards matching Evo 2's. Do you know if the top harness holes are proportionally higher, than standrad Evo's? So that the straps aren't angled UP over our shoulders?

Thanks.

Glenn

Will, How wide is a 911? You are right, its just math but i don't know how wide i have to work with. My car is in KC at IA so i can not measure it myself. I am also going to have rs door panels, will that help?

Glenn, the over all height of an evo 1 is 35.04, evo 2 is 34.45. I don't know why the bigger seat is shorter. If you go onto the sparco web site they have a page with all the seat sizes.

I am thinking about an evo 3 for me and a evo 2 for the other seat. what do you think.

Thanks,

Scott

I have my two Evo 2s mounted right next to each other. The "wings" do not touch, for sure. I don't know exactly how close they are, but it's out the parking lot right now - I can go check if you like.

The wings do come pretty close to the peice of trim that runs along the top of the door panel. I have mine mounted really low, so that probably brings them closer. From memory, I think the extra inch might be a tight fit.

Then again, I have seen Evo 3s in a 911 before, so it *will* work.

Thanks, guys.

I think you're doing it right, Scott, with a mixed pair.

Mike, you're right, the 2 is actually shorter than the 'regular.' Odd.

Anyone compared these to any fat-boy sized OMP's or Momo's? The Recaro SPG XL is nice, harness holes are higher, but I'm looking for blue.

I don't understand why there's still a question..and I don't know why we need to (physically) measure the insides of a typical 911...

Here's what I'm saying. We installed two Evo2's in a standard 911 tub ( 1985 chassis). The internal dimensions between the doors should be identical for a large range of model years...I would suspect all 911's through 89. The "Wings" of each seat touched...or came *this* close to touching the upper door trim piece, on BOTH DOORS ....AND....the inside wings of each seat ( at the same height BTW...) almost touch each other too. Something less than 1/2" as I recall, in the middle. Remember the "outboard" wings were either touching or close to touching the doors.

So... IF ... EVo 2's are as listed here ( 23.66 wide) and if EACH Evo 3 is 25.6"...that's an extra 2" width PER SEAT !!!!...

Where do you think the extra room is to allow one Evo3 with an Evo 2 alongside ????

??????
