A/C question

I was checking my compressor last night and I took the small caps off of both Schrader valves. However, I didn't see the usual valve stems that you can push (like on a tire when wanting to release air). Is this normal? I have an older York compressor.

They gotta be down there somewhere!

Take a flashlight and look down inside the fittings and bet you will find them down a bit inside the fittings. I have two different types of compressors around the garage and one you can see very well and the other has schraeders that are inset a bit.

I went out and checked them again. No dice. What are the rectangular attachments that are attached inline with the hoses? In Wayne's book (page 124 top left), it is the attachment underneath the discharge port.

Just checking emails and internet before bfast (its 0630 here in AZ!) and if no one has posted on this by the time I get back from having a bite I will get in the garage and try to find my old York compressor and look for you. There should be schraeder valves somewhere on the puppy!

Are they possibly adapters for a refrigerant conversion? Are there any stickers on the compressor stating a different refrigerant?

I had thought about that option, but they look all original and there is no stickers mentioning a conversion. I was hoping that I could get the Freeze12 kit for $59.99 and be done with it but now I'm starting to worry about my current compressor.

Targa,

Just spent the last 90 minutes in the garage looking for my old York compressor and cannot find it. It either was thrown away in the last move (possible) or someone borrowed it... not likely!

Sorry to keep you on hold but family got in the way and carried me away from the garage. Hope you can find someone else on the forum to look inside their filling ports on a York.

Joe

No problem Joe. I think that I've decided just to get the upgraded compressor eventually. My York is one of those monsters and by the looks of it, the original!

The reason your compressor doesn't have any schrader valves is because there is a valve there to open. You should have two caps for each line. One is for the refrigeration hose, the other is a stem with a square end on it which is the valve.

It is backed out all the way which closes it to the connection for your refrigeration line. If you turn it clockwise, it will open and let refrigeration out through that opening.

You must connect your hoses first, then open the valve.
