Thumbs up What a Blast!

So my 911E is finally on the road and holy crap it is a ton of fun to drive. I'm starting to understand why people love these cars soo much. No it's not nearly as sharp as my Spyder nor remotely as powerful but wow is it involving in every way. I would need triple the digits to get as involved in the Spyder. Unbelievable fun!

I had some trouble with her initially due to a disconnected hose that places hot air from the heat exchangers into the MFI which caused some stalling and running rich. I also ran out of gas twice which didn't make my wife too happy . I thought the fuel gauge didn't work since it was near the bottom, turns out I was wrong

I took her out tonight after getting the hose reconnected and filled her with gas so no more side of the road adventures. I romped on her on some nearby empty roads and had tons of fun! It's crazy how the rear is so heavy and the front is so light.

My only hope now is that I can afford to keep her. Parts costs are ridiculous on these cars. I'm fortunate to have found a good one that didn't need much to get her running well but I'm cringing if she ever needs a major repair.

Anyone know what octane I should be putting in her?

A few pics after I washed her. Engine needs a cleaning as does the interior but not bad for an unrestored 45 year old. She still has her looks.

Oh and for those of you who haven't experienced a Sporto, they are awesome! It's essentially a manual transmission but without the third pedal and a torque converter added. It's not as sharp off the line but otherwise it's exactly like a manual. You choose your gears by moving the lever into the gear you want. Seriously way ahead of its time IMHO.

Boxster Spyder. She's still my favorite and falls into the dream car category for me.

Octane? What year is it? 69-71 91 or higher octane. In 72 the CR was lowered to 8:1 so 87 is probably OK for the street.

1. Beautiful Targa, that gold lettering just looks essential somehow on a silver body.

2. I've never heard the Sportomatic describe quite that way before, sounds not so bad after all.

3. Somehow I thought all Spyders were white, the black is badarse looking - love it too.

4. Nice photos of both cars, a big clunky camera would lend them a professional touch.

Thanks Gordon. She's a 69 so I guess I have the wrong gas in her. I put 89 in last night.

I wish I had the day off, perfect day for a drive.

That is a really elegant car you have there! And yes, they are so much fun, a different feel than a lot of modern cars.

Both cars are beautiful, but the 911E is a lifetime keeper.

Funny about running out of gas. The first weekend I had my (then stock) 1984 Carrera, the GF and I took it for a spin in the country. All was going well until we pulled off the road to look at the old house where I grew up. Coming back to the road, we hit a hidden stump and all of a sudden I had no clutch engagement. Two hours later we were flatbedded home. We laugh about it now.

I agree, the gold lettering isn't over the top and it really does look "correct" on the car. The targa emblem is also gold.

I love the Spyder and was fortunate enough to find an allocation and order it exactly how I wanted. Full leather and carbon fiber seats make it feel upscale yet sporty. The driving experience is incredible and to me perfect in every way.

Sadly we have a nice clunky Nikon which my wife knows how to use but I haven't mastered it in various lighting and always end up with bad photos. So I resort to the Iphone which takes less than average pictures but at least gives me an excuse for the poor photos.

I live in the southern part of OP and yes I did find the car in KC. It was in a storage facility for the past 1.5 years and Germany before that.

I need to track down a nasty fuel vapor smell. The fuel lines were pressure tested and confirmed no leaks so I'm thinking a vent may be the issue.

Hope you can hang on to your 911. It's a diamond in the rough for sure.

I love the silver paint. Original paint? I wonder how many E targa sportos were made.

I think the targas and sportos are way under valued today. At some point people are going to really appriciate an MFI, sporto Targa.
