Glad to hear from you and welcome to SC. Maybe you, Erik, Pat and I could round up a few other local old school 911 fans and get together some time. I'd be happy to host the first one at my workshop.

I'd be up for an Upstate/WNC 911 get together. Just send me a PM.

Love it!
These guys have got it dialed and are some great inspiration too.

Couple of updates to close out 2014!

Crank assembled.

About 8 hours of case cleaning - and still a bit more to go!
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1420048965.jpg

Bought these wheels previously used on a 944 racer. Had not seen any similar ones before, so maybe they will get used. Not sure yet. They are 15x7's.

I also committed to a MSD 6AL, the MSD high vibration coil and the Pertronix ignition "points replacement". PMO 40's arrived a couple of days ago (so beautiful!) and a new engine wire harness is being made by Dennis Powell to integrate the above without lots of loose ends. Remind me not to look at my next bank statement please

Happy New Year everyone!

Chuck

New engine wiring harness by Dennis (timmy2). Integrates Pertronix, MSD and hot lead and gets rid of everything no longer needed (CIS, A/C, heater blower, etc).

Progress Report

Checked in with body shop a few times recently. They have repaired fron suspension pan damage, closed up holes from a/c, schutz'd the wheel wells and cleaned a lot. Interior about ready for it's paint.

Waiting for a few small parts before I can seal up the engine case, so I tackled the pedal cluster. Was tough to get it all apart but got it done with some encouragement and a BFH :p Painting it now and should be reassembled shortly.

Head stud kit from Supertech arrived! (along with some green viton o-rings which seem to be getting scarce):

And pedal box completed....btw I was feeling a bit cheap about not powder coating it, but after the abuse it took during reassembly I'm glad I didn't. At least with the paint I could touch up scratches, etc.

Wow, keep up the great work!!

Sealed the case today. I can see what all the fuss is about now. My rod holders and chain rest were a little cumbersome which made the process of combining the halves a little tough. Went with the basic process outlined in The Ultimate Sealant thread. Would be much easier next time. Fingers crossed on no oil leaks!

Quick update. Engine work moving along good but slowly. Hardest part so far was figuring out a technique to install the JE Piston wrist pin clips. Those ring clips are tough! In the end, the instructions that come with them are the best advice and no special tools are required. I read lots of posts with various tools and methods, but in the end it just came down to perseverance. And not overthinking, as usual.

Seats!

The amazing work of Stefan at GTS Classics. Oversized and lower seating position for my height. Custom tartan from Ireland I supplied. A conscientious and super nice guy to deal with.

I'll have to decide where to use some of the leftover material.....

Great build, looking forward to more updates. One side note: In one of the pictures your trooper is in the background, brings back memories I used to have on the same color, is the engine stock? I cannot fathom using those tires with the four banger.

jlshls2984 05-02-2015 10:17 AM

Great work! Sending you a PM.

OOOOOOoooooooooooo!

alfadoc 05-02-2015 12:53 PM

I am envious. I kinda feel the same way about my Weissach as you do about your '74, that I shouldn't stray too far from bone stock. I'd love to have the time and resources right now to build an "anything goes" mid year. Enthusiastically subscribed.

The Watson 05-02-2015 02:11 PM

Well, I should update that I sold the 74 Carrera. It was my first P Car and I lusted more over the coupes in the end.

And MJ, you nailed it. The Trooper has no power but I wouldn't change a thing about it.

Really looking forward to seeing this project finished. Keep the updates coming. Would love to feature it when you get more stuff posted!

The Watson 12-31-2015 07:25 AM

After not a lot of progress to report for the past few months, here is a teaser of things to come. Happy New Year!
