TPS and Closed Throttle Microswitch???
Last night I removed the throttle body and tested the actions of both the TPS and the micro switch and it appears that NEITHER are working. The test values for the TPS states an ohm value across the outer terminals and from the center to either of the outer terminals and I have nothing. No continuity across the center to the outer terminals in either the closed or open throttle position (switches don't open or close?). The micro switch has no continuity either, depressed or in a relaxed state.
1. Is there a known aftermarket replacement micro switch? I did some searching and haven't found anything (yet). 2. In an open throttle situation, is the micro switch open or closed? This started as an idle issue and a cold start issue so I worked through the obvious issues, vac leaks, etc. I did find a cracked hose from the switch on the Throttle body to the vac switch mounted on the throttle body so I know this was a contributor. All the other hoses look good at this point. Thanks in advance for the help and collective wisdom on this forum!

The "TPS" is really just a position switch, not a variable potentiometer like modern TPS's so should show continuity only when above a certain throttle open position. The idle switch should show continuity when depressed.

Steve,
Thanks fore the reply, I know the TPS is a full open or full closed indicator, no potentiometer function so it is either open or closed at throttle closed or throttle open. Thanks for the clarification on the microswitch. Still would like to find a micro switch replacement, I'll have to do some digging unless there is a known replacement available. It can't be difficult as it is just an on-off micro switch!

PM me, I've got a brand new idle micro switch and a perfectly good WOT switch for sale if you need it.
But please confirm dead before buying. Us Carrera owners can go down the slippery slope of the shotgun approach of replacing parts real fast! If your micro switch truly isn't working, your idle would be like 1300 RPM and timing far greater than 5 degrees. Last edited by Tippy; 05-10-2014 at 08:55 AM.. |

For replacement micro switches I use Digi-Key (like McMaster-Carr but for electronic stuff)
They have hundreds of different designs of switches. Also...they have many types of toggle and rocker switches too. just in case someone is looking for some of those to replace old tired ones in the car. Bob
