How did the factory flare the tubs?
Were mid-year Carrera - and later, the SC flares stamped into the rear quarters as the tub was made, or were they welded on later?
My car is a 77 that has had flares added. I can see the seam in the wheel well but it looks too perfect. As well, it is not a weld bead, it is just this very small (1/16th of an inch) line that runs the length of the added metal, It never changes in size literally no fluctuation at all razor perfect. As well, there does not seem to be any deviation side to side the seam is in the exact same spot/runs the exact same line on both sides of the car. It almost looks like a small overlap but again, the fit is absolutely perfect. If it is an overlap, there is not one bit of wave to it, and there are no voids at all at the lip like a machine stamped seam. I am just trying to figure out what Ive got here. Thanks! Scott S

The '78 and later quarters were one piece. There are rear flairs that can be welded on to the older cars.

During manufacture, all body panels are either welded, soldered and/or bolted onto the chassis. There are several techniques used to upgrade/repair/add body panels after the fact.
You have factory SC flares? While their installation sounds pretty sanitary, not sure why they would need to be installed since that's the factory body shape for that model year. If larger flares, the installer did a good job. Sherwood |

perhaps like my 77s, the flares were butt welded. excellent job. they spent gobs of time and $$ putting flares and spoilers on then put a $300 paint job on it.
