Weather related CIS problem?
Good day all,
Has anyone ever run into CIS problems due to weather or seasonal changes? My 81 SC was running great on Friday of last week, very minor surge on engine start, weather here in Canada in the morning is still around 50. Yesterday high humidity and fog along with the cooler temperatures. Large surges which did not stop made car undrivable and caused stalling. Today dry crisp blue sky and engine runs like advertised again. Thoughts? Thanks in advance.

The only thing I've noted is the CO will fatten a bit in extreme heat as that will change the ratio just a tad. The only reason I know this is my onboard AFI. Drives the same.
What you have sounds like a totally dif situation. |

I have to agree.
carrera73rs, would you call the surging rich related (usually the reason for genuine surging) or idle oscillations? I have had idle oscillations that occurred when I had an air leak at the base of an intake runner. However, the symptoms only occurred on really nasty hot days when I was stuck in slow moving traffic. For fun, look in your distributor to see if tirwin may be correct. Moisture, arcing racks or anything odd.

I guess it could be moisture in the distributor from humidity, but car was parked in garage and stayed there all day. When I got home it fired up and ran with now symptoms of the morning.
It could be rich induced surge, but as I said it ran perfect again in the evening and all day today. Thanks for the replys and thoughts. |

if you think weather is effecting your CIS that much, you may have problems with it. air leaks is a good start. mixture not set properly.
i never had weather issues with mine

If you had a dwell meter, you could easily check the mixture. Something to think about if you are serious about getting to the bottom of this.
Cheers, Joe 82 Targa that is not afraid of the dwell meter |
