two drove in only one comes out....
I just wanted to share a little of the joy I am experiencing this week. I bought the 85 Targa taht was on sale in SF, so I am swapping the suspension and drive train into my 1970 T chassis. So literally two cars drove into the garage and only one will drive out....kind of like an old western....

taking a break, so here is some more info, this is one of the two cars, it is the donor car..
Damaged '85 911 Targa, $10K/OBO I bought it last week, and picked it up on Tuesday, and started work on wednesday stripping. I really was looking for a 3.2L motor, but I could not resist the entire package. I have a Carrera suspension and a 915 ready to go, and was waiting on the motor to present itself on the classifieds, however this seemed like a better deal. I now have a spare suspension and trani. I also race a 911 with these parts so spares are my ensurance agains a track mishap. If I have them I will not need them, the second I use them I will need them. The car that will drive out is a 1970 911T, I plan on keeping looking like a T and a sleeper. I love the look of a early car, I just don't like turing webers, etc... So far the front suspension is on the T, and I got the rear one the T today, now I am dealing with the things that will not just bolt on. I havfe pulled the wiare harness from the Targa, and the oil lines and tank. I want the T to have the larger tank from the Targa, however it was badly dented in the wreck, so I will either have to split it open and bang it back or find a new one. I will also have to cut a hole in th T so the new tank will fit, old Ts have the smaller tank and different openings. It motor is out and cleaned up ready to go, once I get new fuel lines so I never have to deal with the leaking factory ones it will be really ready. I plan to put the brain under the drivers seat, so I will need to do that, the extra fuel line for the return to the tank, the new clutch cable, and oil lines and in goes the new motor. that is all I can think of right now...hope to have it done next week...oh and to answer the question the Targe was damaged at on open track day at Thunderhill, it was hit by a Miata, during a spin, did not need to happen, but it did..... once I am done, I will take a bunch of pictures of the Targa, and anything left is up for grabs... Too big to fail

Jim, you're not fooling yourself or anyone; after riding in my car, you know you want a 3.6L
![]() (yes, I know it blows you out of the water classification-wise)

Thom,
your close to correct, I want the power of the 3.6 but in a 3.2. I have two other cars with 3.2s and really like the idea of having all the same so I get to know one motor really well. Now if I could figure out a way to get all 3.6s then that is another story.... |

here are a few update pictures, the suspension is on, the motor is in, the car can roll around, but I still have lots to do.
Oil system incomplete, oil tank fitted, and lines fitted but not installed. fuel lines are not sorted out, I will be running AN -6 lines through the tunnel, the holes are drilled, but the lines are not run. Fuel tank is not in the car Not sure I like the wiring solution for the brain, had to run the harness under the shock tower brace. Surprise! there is not enought room to run it behind the brace like the 1985, Porsche added a gap in later cars to acomidate this. need to touch up a little rust in the front pan, welding required Suspenion is not tightened down |

I don't know how many of you guys see the irony in this little project. This is the first night shift I have done in a long time and the first of 3 12hr nights in a row so bear with me....*grin* All of the cars that we see on E-bay and elsewhere where early cars are cut up/ flared and otherwise demoralized (body wise) and the old suspension/ engine stuff is retained . Here is an example (like Jacks) that the best parts are retained...the narrow body...all the updated suspension etc... I think it is funny the divergence of thought! Brian

So I thought I would pot a picture of what is left of the targa this week was spent getting rid of the remains of the car, lots of emails and shipping going on. Next week I will get back to the completion of the 1970 update
Kind of sad really to see all that stuff apart.... |

I think its always so neat to find out that our cars are really large kits.
The project sure looks good. Good luck, David Duffield |
