engine fire

I took a chance on a 1982 with an engine fire at an insurance auction. pretty much all the FI and electrical was melted but very little metal was melted, engine is now in the blue car and runs great after i installed spare cis and ignition systems.

I made sure the engine rotated and had compression. checked the head studs, checked the chain tensioners, removed most of the fire extinguisher residue, and against the advice of most did not check any engine internals.

rgmrgm thanks now that's what I needed to hear, I bought a 3.3 turbo motor out of a 1987 the guy already had the heads redone. I just sent everything out to get cleaned up then off to the machine shop.

Why does it need to go to a machine shop? Can't you do a leak down and compression test (with starter) to get an idea after inspecting underneath the covers?
